Well.. QNX is a part of blackberry .. But they support almost every car manufacturer... Volvo.. Now ford.. And many others.. They will always be around.. They aren't technically intertwined with blackberry they were an acquisition.. And would be sold.. Like ford sold Aston Martin and jaguar and several others.. So they are going to be around .. Trust me ..
Good to know.

I currently have GPS, but when carplay is available, not sure I'd need the ford GPS anymore. What is the price without gps? I assume the antenna is what makes up part of the price difference and is not required if you use carplay - as gps data is coming from phone.no.. The antenna is required regardless of nav or not on sync 3 and the antenna is a 10$ part.. It's just the price in the parts difference..

If I guy were to install this on a '15, how would one get the carplay update (or any updates for that matter) when available? As the myfordtouch website thinks I have MFT and will not give me sync3 updates - I presume.we are still waiting for a mass update to be realized to know the exact details of updates but we can do usb updates..may require using a vin that has the same system.. We do this already for those that upgrade from the base to MFT..but updates will be done one way or another.

When you say 'plug it in', is it literally just a plug? Or is the wiring a little more involved? Is the hardware the same unit you'd get in the '16s?yes.. It is just plug it in.. And an antenna

What is involved with the install of the gps antenna? Does need to be mounted on the outside of the vehicle? to do..no.. It can go under the dash.. The factory GPSm is in the center of the dash under a panel.. So it's not complicated

Thanks.

So if the antenna is required either way, what makes it cheaper if you don't need navigation? The absence of the actual nav software, I guess? What is the price with no navigation?

When carplay actually comes out for the '16s, I suspect at that point you'd be including whatever additional hardware is also required?

Navigation is more expensive because I can't find nav enable units.. So if someone wants nav I have to get a nav enabled apim from ford new.. And those alone are expensive..

When car play is available I will include what is needed if the person is willing to pay for the parts.. My goal is to ship as complete a kit as possible .. So when someone gets it they open it up and start to plug in.. But some don't want or need them or will buy the parts themselves.. I basically make the kits per customers needs

If I buy a 2015, it will have MFT and NAV. Would I still need a GPS antenna? What about CarPlay? How much for the plug-in install?
You don't need a GPS antenna, it already has one. All Mustangs even the base base v6 have a GPS receiver and antenna, Its needed for the 911 assist and Sync Services.

I am going to purchase either a 2015 or 2016 GT Premium. For those of you who have MFT, does it work as advertised, or is it as bad as Consumer Reports makes it out to be? If it's a pain, I'll wait and buy a 2016 (lightly used) and upgrade to Sync 3. Appreciate your thoughts. Thx.
I have MFT with Nav in my 15 Mustang, in 25k miles it has been flawless as we're the two previous Fords I had. I have never tried Sync 3 so I can't comment on it but I have no desires for anything more than the MTF I have.

Sync 3 systems require an additional antenna on top of the GPSM already installed.

I have MFT with Nav in my 2013 F150 and has been great, even before any updates.:D I don't get all the people crapping on it. It did everything I wanted it to do and did it well.:)

I guess I will find out how Sync 3 works in a few weeks. No matter how well it works, it won't be as visually pleasing as MFT:(

You are wrong.. They have GPSM not GPS antenna.. I wish you would maybe confirm before you say things like this.. Sync 3 uses an antenna NOT A GPSM

Ok, what exactly is GPSM? People just pretend they know what you are talking about, sometimes. :headbang:

Really they serve the same function.. but the GPSM does the job on the can bus network versus a coax that plugs directly into the unit. so the GPSM shares info on the can bus 2 line and feeds info where the Sync 3 uses a coax antenna and then it sends out the signal.. the cars that have Sync 3 from the factory do not have the GPSM but the cars with the base system does...

This is exactly why the guys in the 16s with sync 3 are having SAT radio reception issues.. they split the signal on the antenna between the SAT radio and the Sync 3.. obviously two totally different receive frequencies.. so they have the reception issues. They now have new part numbers out to correct it..

But anyways.. are they the same.. kinda.. but different.. and all Sync 3 unit nav or not need an antenna added..

I am not trying to avoid this right now.. I have charged 1299 on the last batch I got.. it depends of what I pay when I get some.. I have 1 coming for Tuesday.. it is a non nav.. Once I get it test it and evaluate the condition I will price it..

So when my 2016 arrives I will have Sat reception issues? Or is the issue fixed with the late year builds? Or will I have to book an appointment with my dealer for the fix?

The two working frequencies must be relatively close, otherwise there would be significant loss.

Also what's the fix? Different (wider antenna) and duplexers or multi-couplers?

I am on my third car with sync 2 and MFT. WE love it.

The problem with the media reviews, is they get a few hours, maybe a few days to use the car. The system has a solid 2 week learning curve. But when you get the hang of it, it just works. I couldn't imagine a car without it.

Pe ople who complain about MFT and sync are either slow, or have not taken the time to actually learn the system, or their gear (phones and such) are not updated with latest software and firmware.
