Why would you disconnect it??
Doesn't make sense.
Get the Eco boost if you don't want the grunt.

The thing is a hideous abomination... once I source some blanks for each end, it's off.
I might chase up a cap for the intake end this week Banditvox and try it with that end blanked.

I have just measured the intake end, I need a cap of 26 to 27mm....will get a stool tip or something similar from Bunnings....there is a thread on the main forum diy section that should have the plug size for the firewall. I will be jacking the car from the front next week to remove the front facia to changeout the lower grille. I will have a look at the access to the firewall end of the tube from underneath then. It looks like a pig of a job from above.
It is only a glorified drum anyway.....Air doesnt flow through it, it just has a diaphragm in it that vibrates with intake air...

Ford could have saved money by not putting the crap sound tube on and given us the DRL lights instead.

Yes its more dificult to get to on RHD cars.
If [MENTION=14340]HybridGT[/MENTION] hasnt already ripped the thing out, I think he is planing to some time soon.

Before you go and start tearing things apart...my 2cents.

I haven't removed mine so my comment is guessing a little but I did once drive an 86 with the sound tube removed, and some of the in cabin 'drama', if you will, was diminished.

I'm guessing it would be the same with the stang. For example, the stock E90 M3 I drove last year sounded similar to the stang, but the noise sounded like it was very very far away, somewhere behind the car. A nice note, but not dramatic enough.

My comparison with my stang, is that the noise of the stang with a fully stock setup, sounds like its coming from somewhere between the driver and passenger, just above the gearstick.

It's a very 'internal' noise, and adds to the drama. I'd guess that removing the sound tube will remove some of the drama.

HybridGT also changed his springs and realised there's less front lift when accelerating - this is some drama that I definitely don't want to get rid of, so I won't be changing springs for now.

Careful what you wish for I guess!

Hope somebody can take it out to give us a real comparison. Ford didn't just do these things because there's no change - there must be some effect.

I already have an exhaust on mine Art, so the sound tube is now redundant...but I agree with you that on a car with the stock exhaust, you would lose some of the cabin noise...

Just rip it out. It's easy, just takes a little muscle. Be sure to plug hole on the CAI.

It made ZERO difference in sound on my GT. It clutters the engine bay and Ford could have saved money or given us factory hood struts.

I removed mine when I fitted the exhaust, a piece of cake if you undo the nut holding it to the firewall from underneath - literally took 30 seconds to remove it.

Thanks Wil. Did you have a firewall plug supplied with your CAI or did you source one locally?

There was a plug included with my CAI kit Bob.

It should be something readily available though. When it stops raining for a minute I'll get the sound tube from the shed and see if I can measure it.

Thanks again Wil...the hole in the firewall is around 29 to 30mm according to the thread in the diy section. I just need to chase up a sheet metal/auto body plug of that size.
There are kits available in the USA, but USD18 plus shipping is far too much for a couple of two dollar plugs.
