Factory Holds...

Hey everybody I'm pretty new to the forum. I ordered a 2016 GT w/ PP back in January and still haven't gotten my car. The dealer tells me there is a factory hold on it. Anybody got any ideas on how long this will take or what it could be for?:frusty:

Depends on what thew hold is for. I bought a CS and it took two weeks to get the stripes installed, so depending on what it is will determine the wait.

Wow, that seems like a long time, normally a built to order car from the factory is 6-8 weeks.

I would get on the phone and start making calls to whoever you have to and get some answers.

Call Deysha at Ford Service to see if she can get some info for you. They held my car for 3 wks. for the same reason and I never did find out why. The salesman told me they won't release the car until it's perfect. Yeah, right! that made me feel better.

There's a nationwide shortage of railroad autoracks right now...the railroads scrapped a bunch of railroad cars during the great recession (smart move, huh?) :lol: Seriously, this is causing issues shipping the cars out in a timely manner...

Can you ask the dealer what the reason for the hold is, even if you don't believe them? They called me the last Monday in August to say mine would be in that week, then said there was an issue with the hood vent turn signal. Wasn't able to take delivery until 9/30.

As others have said, Ford Service (Deysha) is always responsive.

I can tell you why I custom ordered: most car dealers around here stock the cars that will make them the most money (i.e. the ones they can mark up the most). When you order a car that's light on interior options/creature comforts, you're taking away the dealers' margin ;) Basically, I can't afford any more car than I bought. Dealers up here will stock plenty of Ecoboost Premium cars, but they don't tend to order the performance package without the Premium interior.

If you give me $27k to buy a car, I'll take the mechanical goodies over creature comforts any day of the week and twice on Sundays P.S. A non-premium ecoboost is about 100 lbs. lighter than a premium ecoboost also...

To help you figure out what might be the hold, I ordered a GT Premium Performance Package coupe with everything but security package and Recaros (need cooled seats) and graphics stuff, even got the upgraded PP wheel color. That was the last day in January and I've had the car now for 3 weeks.

Did you order graphic stuff (stripes, black roof, etc)? I can't imagine anything holding it up other than paint, graphics, recaros or security package. Since you ordered before I did, anything else that would hold yours up should have held mine up.

Like others who special ordered I had to have it just right, and that means a pretty heavily optioned car. Guard GT Premium with PP, 401A package, premiere trim with color accents group, nav, and racing stripes. I guess I shouldn't complain that it's taking so long.

Like I thought. Since I ordered all those options and more (other than stripes) BEFORE you ordered and have had my car for a while, it has to be the stripes or the paint color or the particular Premium interior (mine is RedLine). Glad I decided on aftermakret stripes.

I thought dealers get a report every week that says what options are on backorder/hold for all models. Your dealer should be able to compare that to your order and tell you what is holding yours up. Hope its not the paint because I thought once they use all they contracted for and its the last year of a color they just stop making them. But you ordered so long ago we would have heard if that's the issue. Plus there would be no reason for Ford to sit on it and not tell the dealer. Have you confirmed they definitely ordered as a customer sale and not accidentally as a lot order? I can see a manufacturer being less worried about lot orders than ones for specific customers. Hopefully the hold up is just for the stripes.

The car was actually built 2/29 and has just been sitting. My guess is the stripes may have held it up. I looked up the window sticker this morning and it has yesterday's date at the bottom. Not sure if that means the sticker was generated yesterday and things are starting to move along now but that's the hope I'm clinging to. I'll post the window sticker if I figure out how

I think the internet created window stickers always have the current date (i.e. today or yesterday) on the bottom. That is, if you plug in a VIN that is sitting on the street today, you will get today's date on the bottom.

I ordered my 16 GT Premium Vert with Guard Dark Saddle and every option but stripes. Ordered on 3/31. 4/7 was the first Thursday after ordering and I got my VIN and first time it showed up on COTUS (the wwwqa version). Still no build date or any other information. Today is the second Thursday after ordering. If I don't have any update later today I might email my dealer tomorrow - who I haven't interacted with since I got the DORA two weeks ago.

I did not expect waiting to be difficult. Afterall I am currently driving a BMW M3 Vert. So, it's not like I dont have a vert to enjoy the nice weather. I'm just ready to move on and have constant anxiety that something went wrong with the order. If they just told me that it will be here on the __th day of May or June, I would be able to sit tight. I think. . .
