Hi,

I'm looking for an axle-back system for my S550 Mustang GT. I want an exhaust that is moderately loud, smooth (not raspy), and drone-free.

I've narrowed it down to either the Magnaflow Competitions ABs or the Borla S-Type ABs. Which do you like better?

Thanks.

The Magnaflow Competitions are going to be the loudness you want but the drone is going to be there as well so like Landon has stated, out of those, Borla, just cut the tips off because Borla's tips are hideous. LOL.

Everyone does interpret sound differently, but most of our customers with this system claim no rasp and no drone.

Funny, i have narrowed it down to the two also. Leaning towards the Mag competitions because of the deep tone that i don't hear with most others. I don't think i'll mind a slight drone because of my 3:73 gearing. However, hearing the GT500's on this vehicle does have me seriously contemplating going that route.

I love the deep, bassy exhaust of the MF comps my only concern is that I might not be able to put up with it if there is any drone as Ultra mentioned.

It will be my first ever exhaust upgrade for my S550 and first for any car I've ever owned so I just want to make sure I get it right the first time. For those who think this exhaust drones, how bad is it? Is it tolerable?

I'm also considering two more options:

MF Street ABs (wait until they are released) + H-pipe

RTR Street ABs + H-pipe

I have no idea if either of those options will get me the type of exhaust note and volume I want with little or no drone though.

Thank you all for your input.

As far as sound upgrades, I plan on keeping everything else stock once I get ABs.

I know what you're saying, as i have/had the same reservation. I have come to the conclusion that if i really like the sound a little drone won't bother me. Most everything else is just to raspy for my taste. You can alway's put a different cat-back on it if it's too much. The roush axle-back has bumped borla from my equation(maybe even with the resonator delete).

Bill's reaction at 2:55 is priceless.

Out of those two choices I would go with Borla. I like the tone on Magnaflows but the Borlas won't drone which is a big deal for me personally.

I know I sound like one of those darn fan boys but for what its worth No matter what exhaust I start with I always end up with Magnaflow in the end. Save the money swapping exhausts and the embarrassing raspy/exotic sounds these other exhausts produce. The Magnaflows are built to perform also. No rasp or drone.

I have the MF Comp axle back with 3.73 gears. I like the deep, smooth tone but I have some drone between 1100 and 1500 rpm and a little less drone from 1500 to 1900. It's not bad, but it makes me be aware of what rpm/gear I'm using when driving easy in my small town.
