Lund to Whipple tune conversion: Review

The big difference with Ken, is he's a results oriented tuner that you partner with. He doesn't just pump out tunes that yield dyno #'s, he studies your datalogs to discover where he is leaving power on the table, makes changes, fires it right back over to you. There's a reason why my car cuts 1.4's on 20's, and it aint cause of me, haha. His product is a sure thing, as long as you are willing to meet him halfway and keep sending him feedback/datalogs he'll keep refining your cars results.

He knocked mine out really fast. Hell, one night I sent him a log at 11pm and at 11:15pm he gave my a revision and asked for more logs. I told my wife I had to get milk for the morning lol. The roads are noce and clear at that time of night lol.

I don't believe Ken will turn anyone away, but I do think his focus is more geared towards local dyno tuning, drag strip tuning, or remote tuning for FI S550/other mustang.

Wow, there is a TON of reading on this site, but it definitely gets confusing. Just got rid of my M6 (warranty about up), and am going to get a 15 gt Auto to mod. I was set on a KB 3.2, but now am starting to change my mind. Let me keep to this thread though so not to hijack.

This started off at how great the new Whipple tune is vs. Lund, and ended up with Ken's tune. Does Ken make the Whipple tune that comes with it or is everyone talking about something totally different than what the OP started this thread on? Take it easy one me i'm new.....Thanks in advance!

Ken got bought up in a comparison to Lund. Ken doesn't make whipple's calibration.

KB makes an amzing kit. If I hadn't of gone with whipple, I would have gotten a KB 3.2 kit. As for tuning, if you go with Whipple's kit, I would use their tuning. If you go with KB, it depends on what you want in regards to tuning. If you want more power, I would recommend giving Ken a call. However, I would actually call Ken before you buy any kit, see what he recommends based on your goals.

lund is exactly the opposite. lund has 0 interest in chasing dyno #s, and lund will typically turn away those customers interested in chasing a dyno #.

our 2015 was running 9.5s on the stock block with the lund tune, same as their car was...

but....i already had an engine being built because "I KNEW" i was going to need one.

I have no doubt that the lund tune made less power, it was richer and less timing.

Lunds tunes more power adder cars probably 20-50 fold out there.

First thing that happens when the engine goes, is the tune gets blamed. It happens every time. Thats the nature of this business. Even though its not the tune, thats still what you hear.

With the amount of tunes Lund puts out there. They are going to try to be on the conservative side, with a car that will last a long time for the customer.

Like I tell everyone, you have to play to pay. I've seen customers jump ship in search of that bigger number, and 2 weeks, 2 months a year later posting crying about having to shell out 5k plus on an engine.

If you want a proven tune, that performs great, and should last you a long time, then Lund is your goto. If you are in search of an on the edge, be ready to build your engine, you may be better off elsewhere. And no love lost there. Best of luck.

Thats what I tell customers. We sell a lot of power adders, probably more than anyone out there, and I never try to "force" a lund tune at them, but give them the benefits of my feelings on the subject, and let them make a decision.



Ken knows what he's doing, Ken started out here locally and i've known him for years, his mom and dad, sister, niece, brother in law are friends of mine. If you want something more aggressive, he'll do a good job for you.

Is there a difference in Warranty if you used the Whipple tune that comes with it as opposed to a custom tuner? Just asking cause if Whipple decides to put out more power, and warranties it, then it is a no brainer for me. Again, I am just getting in here late to the party. I had a JDM tuned Saleen and a few others, but I am WAY behind the times here.

I don't think that he is partial to any of the systems. He tunes a lot of different setups. He tuned Kelly's VMP setup and then Lethal's whipple setup, both make a ton of power. Burnin4 and I have both had great results from Ken. Ken will be the only tuner that I use for my Mustang now. I believe that his mustang has a twin turbo kit lol.

But, if you are thinking about warranty, I would talk to Dustin at Whipple. I can't comment on warranty, I was never concerned with it.

41rwhp and 20rwtq less is a lot considering that the only change on the car was a tune. Dyno comparison was done on the same car, same dyno and same day.

I can understand the claim for longevity but Lund is acting like all customers have the same goals. I drive my car 5000 miles per year and I am insane when it comes to maintaining my cars. My goal is results for the amount of money that I have spent and will end up spending. 41rwhp and 20rwtq less with Lund's tune is not the results that I paid for.

I would have been fine with my Lund tune if my logs would have looks similar to the ones that Travis posted in this thread here http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43888
Heck, my ECTs and ACTs are always lower than the ones in Travis's logs with a 93oct tune. Yet, Lund had my tune even more conservative than Travis's even after me trying to get him to just bump timing a little "was at 16.8 and looking for 18.5" and leaning out the A/F just a little "was at 11.2 and looking for 11.5". Lund said NO to my request so he shouldn't be surprised when someone like me gets pissed.
