GT350R vs 6th Gen Z/28

The Z/28 was a hell of a deal when it came out. There was nothing close to it for the price as far as track performance went.

The cost was justifiable based on parts/labor and design time. Show me where it wasn't. I'm not saying it was a bargain for someone like me because I wouldn't pay it. But it was for someone who wanted one hell of a track car for that price at the time.

The same people who try to say that the Z/28 wasn't worth that are some of the same ones that try to justify the 20k+ mark up on the GT350 and even higher. (Not saying you. Just making a generalization. Most people wouldn't pay it.)

Not saying the Z/28 didn't have mark up but plenty of people payed damn near the same price or even way more for a GT350.

Your bringing up a 20k mark up isn't even accurate. We're talking msrp. The z28 at 75k was not worth it then or now. And GM realizes this because of what ford offers for less money! That's my whole point.

I understand MSRP.

I'm just saying that people who make the argument about how they think $75k for one car is ridiculous are the same that would pay $75k for the other.

The GT350 is a great deal at its price. But so was the Z/28 when it came out considering how much you'd have to pay for something comparable. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's magically worth the cheaper price you personally think it's worth.

Edit: If I could afford one or the other there's no doubt I'd take the GT350. So there.

But its hard to argue the 350R isn't getting it done cheaper. People who are paying mark up just need to be patience. Look at Z28 buyers for instance. The first batch of buyers paid 100 grand. A year later they could of had a Z28 for 20% below invoice.:headbonk:

Oh I 100% agree that it was a tougher sell considering you could get a Corvette for less.

It was a niche car for a very VERY specific group of people. I would have bought the Corvette.

And I won't argue that the GT350 is doing it better. It is. The car is damn near perfect. And I'd sure hope it would be better being on a chassis that wasn't mean my for a family sedan. lol.

Although... I will admit that I considered purchasing a Z/28 briefly when they were 20% off MSRP. I'm a cheap ass though.

I'll give GM props. They're really getting after it in the Hi-Po categories. Maybe due to the success of the GT350, GM decided to keep the LS7 going a little bit longer. Stick a few hundred in the Z/28 and keep it quite limited just like the GT350R?

They wont do that. But I hope they do something similar. There are some rumors floating around about a smaller displacement V8 with two smaller turbos. I would rather see a 6.2, free it up, give it around 515 hp and torque. Take some weight out of it, say around 3,600 even. That thing would be amazing.

It's a dead motor, DEAD, along with the rest of the LS family. They're only being produced as crate motors now. It's all just fantasy, along with 6.2 liter Coyotes, 5.8 Trinity motors in S550's and other fanboy jerkoff fantasy powerplants.

No i haven't forgotten them, those aren't mustang variants so i excluded them. Compared to the Camaro line up that gm is pushing out this year ford is behind in the mustang category
