I would talk to a plan especially if you plan on modding... They quoted me sub 400 with wheels, suspension and stripes. In my old s197 adding a supercharger only increase my premium by 100 quid. I was unlucky enough to have someone hit me up the Arsenal and they where fantastic with the claim, which came a week before renewal!

Just phoned direct line to finalise insurance for the arrival next month, they are quoting a 6k temp astra 61 plate at around £660. When we change to the v8 payments go down by £20 pcm, about £30k of a difference in car value, if anything was expecting it to go up by a margin
The main risk to insurers is that of third parties. I guess they figure you're going to be more careful with a 30K car than with a regular vehicle.

Mine seems to be the same quote no matter which car I choose. Current Focus ST, Mustang EB or Mustang v8 at about £330.

Thanks for the recommendations, I went with Direct Line.
£280 annual premium.

Very happy with that, 35 years old, wife also on policy, parked on drive, 9k miles/year, business use, £0 voluntary excess!

Am I right to think our cars have breakdown cover from Ford for a year or so?

Think so, i believe my dealer mumbled on about that, though a lot of folk have the breakdown cover through their banks so probably wont use it

...and every time you have it serviced at a Ford dealer you get another 12 months cover.
Which you will need if you stupidly let ford service your car.

When they forget to put the oil back in the engine and it goes pop

Well, got a quote from Directline today, £163.63 with £250 excess.

I then asked them how much with my planned mods of over the top stripes and new aftermarket wheels? £163.63!
I asked them to check again and they confirmed. Nice!!!

Now, where's my car!

A slightly sweeping statement. In the eighties I'd have agreed. With recent experience, not so much.

Updated my quote for £324 for me and the Mrs with directline. Happy with the numbers and just hoping they hold the quote for when the car is due but no doubt it will go up.

Will add mods over the phone with them but as its only a vinyl tint kit and changed decklid hopefully it won't go up much. (until I add more in months to come lol)

Are people finding they're pulling cheaper insurance quotes when speaking to operators on the phone?

Tempted to phone around the non-comparison sites was just wondering if anyone could give a list and if i'd get it cheaper over the phone?

Is that £250 the total excess (i.e. compulsory plus voluntary) on that out of interest? Starting to look at getting quotes now given it should be arriving in Southampton in the next couple of weeks or so !

I think you have been fortunate. I personally won't let someone who is used to working on fiestas touch my "performance car"

Will much rather someone who is going to look after my car

Got my renewal through the other day for my ecoboost. £545 for 32year old, 11years no claims protected, 10k miles and social domestic, pleasure and commuting.

Gonna shop around and call them to shave a few quid off but I'm happy at that.
