Ford Racing doesn't think the mustang is a high performance vehicle

I have a 620 HP '79 firebird 462 cu in. Pontiac with Butler performance heads that does 11's in the 1/4 mile. It's raw, beastly, loud and not comfortable to drive on a trip. Believe me, The Mustang GT is still fast and every bit a muscle car and most importantly much more.

Sorry, I just hate the typical american car guy/girl sentiment that if it's not a big heavy v8 that it's garbage.

People in other markets like the UK understand that there is more to a car than brutal straight line acceleration, and frankly that's why cars like the FoST, FoRS, FiST, and other legendary Team RS cars are legendary everywhere else in the world.

The basic appeal of the Mustang GT is why it's a "regular" mundane car here, and not really a Ford Performance halo car. If the GTPP were a bit more elevated like a 1LE, it would totally belong under the Ford Performance banner. We can only hope Ford gets keen to that idea and gives us that in the future.

Honestly if they just gave it Mag-Ride, Dual mode exhaust, and some Pilot Super Sports to what it already has, along with some outside differentiation on the body, it would be perfect.

But that doesn't mean it's not a sports car or a fast car to ME. It does have 435HP right out of the box. Its your car. Call it whatever the f*ck you want. Depending on what car you are coming from, to the Mustang, it may feel like a rocket ship to you. To someone with a car running in the 8's or something, yea the Mustang is slow in comparison. But if you don't drive a vehicle running that fast, then you don't have that comparison of speed. The Mustang GT is a fast car right off the showroom floor. No doubt about it.

It is also heavy but in the PP form, it will pull 1G on the skidpad and run pretty damn fast around a road course. Brake with the best of cars and looks AMAZING and EXOTIC at the same time. It is faster than 90% of the cars on the road, stock for stock.

Ford truly hit a homerun with this car in all models and options. I think they did. The car is a freaking head turner. It is like Jennifer Aniston walking down the road on a cold day with a thin shirt on and jeans with heals. It turns heads like that on a daily basis. No lie

Yeah...it's not. GT350 is the performance variant of the Mustang. S550 is a base platform. Even the GT is not a "performance" vehicle by classification. GT stands for Grand Touring after all.

I think, OP, you are confusing "performance" car = "good" car or "desirable" car or "prestigious" car and that "non performance" car = "bad" car or "my wee wee is smaller now" car. I can think of a lot of "performance" cars that are just utter dogshizz.

The GT350 is a special edition vehicle. The exact meaning of "GT" does not change the "thought" of what your referring to when you tell someone you have a Mustang GT. The general thought is "thats the fast mustang". Ya know? I am not personally saying I feel my Mustang GT is fast or specifically a performance car. But I also don't think it's slow by any means, and I think it handles pretty dam well for the weight it's carrying.

Everyone gets so wrapped around comparisons and who faster stock, and better, and on and on. Sports cars, performance cars, fun cars, "Fast" cars, whatever you want to call them are not a logical thing, if you like it, enjoy, if not, who cares. There will always be someone faster. It has a Mustang frame and same ugly coolant reservoir.

Bout the only thing is the engine that is vastly different. And I guess the transmission but meh who cares really about that. Body panels dont mean anything performance wise. And the rest like I said, would be upgraded by the owner in a base GT anyway.

Are you stupid? The engine! Can your engine rev to 8250 RPM?
