Car is listed as a "test vehicle" and has 8243 miles. Manheim inspected it and rated its condition as 4.9/5. It's part of a Ford factory Sale which I believe if for Ford dealers only.
Unless you have some specific particulars on this car why would you suggest that this car has a bad story such as water damage etc.?

I could be wrong but I would suggest that this is a preproduction GT350 that has gone to auction and that the original title owner is the Ford Motor Company.

If that is the case this could be a "Pilot Production" car which could be either a static display vehicle, press vehicle or even possibly one of the GT350 North American Track Tour static display cars. If it is one of the North American Track Tour vehicles it will have some real tough miles on it but I am pretty sure it is not as I believe only Track Pack and R model cars made it onto the track.

As far as the Carfax report goes they will only supply what has been reported. The only report that really means something will be the Manheim Report out of Carleton, Michigan and I assume that this car is being sold at auction in Michigan?

The VIN on this car suggests that it may be a preproduction 2016 GT350 and the best way to confirm that is for someone to determine the chassis build number which will tell us a number of things.

Lastly, the build date on this car would be interesting to determine and that can be done very easily by just checking the door jamb decal which will provide the actual production date for this vehicle.

Then again, as you suggested this car may be just be a bad story with a lot of baggage but I suggest not.

BTW, the two R models that I drove in Sebring had VIN's ending in 139 and 141 which is very close to this car so suggest it is a PP car of some sort and not a damaged car as some have suggested.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

If the car is a test or Preproduction Unit - then it would certainly be worth it to scoop it up and retain it. It has future collectibility value over others in its same production year due to being such a vehicle and most likely it has a very low build number too.

Good luck to who ever ends up with it!

Manheim gets all types of cars for sale. Many are low mileage lease returns being sold by the manufactures financial company (i.e. Ford Financial) Some are very new cars (repo) still under warrenty. Some are wrecked (as is) cars. A good portion of a dealers used cars for sale on their lots come from Manheim Auctions. Once a model is released it will be find its way to Manheim with msrp from $ 5k to 500k.

Great. I edited out. Still think the auction result is not interesting in the least.

I suggest that your comments are correct for this vehicle and that the owner of this particular vehicle is the Ford Motor Credit Company with the Ford Motor Company being the original titled owner.

:cheers:

I have a friend with a dealers license and I've purchased several cars through Manheim Auction. You get all types, lemons, salvage, and perfect cars. A lot of lease returns go through there. You can find a lease return and run the VIN through the manufactures service dept and get a lot of info on the car. You just have to be patient and wait until a car fitting your needs comes up.

This is interesting to me because it tells you what a dealer is willing to pay.

If I am correct, which PP0001 can verify, my Pilot Production 13 Boss 302 was sold at Manheim and it was in excellent condition.

Agree that this is likely a PP car and with the miles was likely an exposure car of some sorts. If it's rated at a 4.9/5 at Manheim, which sees ALL kinds, then I would dare to say that this was an exposure car Ford went to lengths to keep in tip top shape and care.

What would really be interesting is if it could be traced to a dealer after the sale to see how the dealer represents the car and what they're asking for it. No idea if that's possible or not.

Yes, all of the 2013 Boss 302 Pilot Production cars were sold at auction through Manheim including your car namely PP0008 and as you said your car arrived in excellent condition.

There were a total of 25 Pilot Production Boss 302's built for the 2013MY with 14 of them being regular Boss cars and 11 of them being Laguna Seca's. Of the 25 PP cars produced there are still a number of them not accounted for.

With Manheim rating this car at 4.9 out of 5 I suggest that this car would be in decent shape based on having seen at least 50 of these preproduction Mustangs over the last few years.

Does anyone know the chassis number for this car and suggest that it will be PPXXX of some sort?

The 2 R models that I drove in Sebring had chassis numbers PP003 and PP004.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

May have been one of the magazine cars Ford makes available to the press. Could have some hard miles on it from unskilled writers and editors but it is listed as excellent condition.

It certainly won't be an indicator of value in the public marketplace.
This statement is quite incorrect considering the high profile nature of these cars and where we stand in the delivery demand cycle. There will be a small legion of dealers(or their principals) bidding on this car either for themselves or for friends/relatives. The hammer price will be an excellent indicator of true market value and not the #s that some bug eyed enthusiasts would postulate.

It's more than likely a press car that Ford gave to multiple magazines and other folks and was passed around and beat on a fair amount. Not to say that it's not in good condition or even that it's a bad car. It may even have some pretty cool history already. I'm interested in seeing how much it goes for.

This is a wholesale, dealer-only auction that will only tell us what the car is worth to a dealer - not the retail buyer. It's also one of the highest-mile GT 350s in existence, and beyond being owned by Ford, it's history is unknown. There is, for example, a big difference between a show car vs. a press pool car or a Track Tour car.

No need to educate me on these type of auctions. I attended them for many years as a buyer and seller and know that the overwhelming majority of cars running through the auction will have selling prices representative of current "wholesale". The GT350 is a very high interest car at this time regardless of mileage. There is no "wholesale" value at this point. The dealers know when the car will run and in instances such as this there will be extremely competitive bidding as those buying and selling may have interest in the car as a personal item or be buying for a friend or relative. Dealers and their principals buy cars at wholesale auctions for themselves. Heat of the moment bidding on ZR1s back in the day yielded shocking prices at these same auctions. A GT350 is a wildly different matter than a 4 year old lease return Ford Focus on the block. The hammer price WILL be quite representative of current full market value whether you believe so or not. Add a few thousand for a much lower mile GT350 and you will have a fairly realistic value.

Don't think this was a car used on tracks, since it is a "tech" based car. Why would Ford use a tech model for people to use on a track. Seems to me that would use a track model for those purposes; otherwise, they would have experienced the same issues owners have already expressed regarding transmission over heating, especially when you consider it has over 8,000 miles. My "guess" - used for media types to drive around town and country roads, but not the track.
