Anyone with any knowledge of the new Rosen head unit (demo'd at CES) versus the Tomtop or Raxiom units? Does this appear to be a worked over reissue of either one of those? It's supposed to be out in the first quarter of 2016. It looks like it has iGo Navigation and retains Sync, and I'm okay with both of those choices.

I have a Rosen/Car Show Piranha head unit in my wife's Dodge Grand Caravan, and I'm pretty happy with it. Everything functions quite well, and their customer support has been decent (provide system updates and e-mail responses to questions).

All I can offer is that at least I've heard of Rosen before since they've been around for awhile. That, in my book, counts for something.

Given that (as far as I can tell from some searching) Rosen created the 2010-2014 Raxiom-branded unit, it could be reasonably assumed that this will be what we see.

I'll be buying this once it comes out unless there is a better alternative by then.

Definitely like the bezel more than the tomtop one because of the indented design of the screen brace. I wonder what the price is and when it comes out!

Raxiom units are usually the same as rosen units. (Raxiom re-brands rosen's units)

Raxiom typically is Rosen.. but according to Alex in another thread they aren't using them for this run..

Sync is going to have to be kept regardless of what anyone tries to do.. there are too many things that go through that and for it to be eliminated would cause electrical and communication issues you wouldn't believe..

So for those that want SYNC gone.. keep dreaming.. it isn't happening.. I for one don't know why it is so disliked.. It was very bad in 2010 with the then new explorer but now.. its solid.. I have had zero issues in my cars with it.. I think lot of people fail to remember that bluetooth is a two way street.. the phone manufacturer and ford have to try and work together as much as possible.. but everytime a company releases an update it risks causing issues.. for example.. IOS 9.2.1 made siri eyes free to stop working.. that isn't fords fault..

anyways.. back to the normally scheduled programming..

That's what I remembered reading somewhere about the Raxiom unit, which makes me wonder if they'll be rebranding some version of the Tomtop unit or if they're cooking up something else entirely.

I also have had no real issues with SYNC connectivity, although I use it primarily for just voice calling. I sometimes stream pandora/sirius through it, and it seems to do reasonably well.

At this point, I'll probably go with whatever ends up having the best quality/fitment.

Crossing my fingers someone puts out a unit with the following:

Top notch building quality
Logical Interface with fast Perfomance
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support
HD Radio
Proper outputs for high end stereo equipment

Maybe they can work with Harmon and do something like this but with HD Radio and the proper audio outputs.

i am a little surprised everyone thinks that sync must be kept. Head units pretty routinely handle the things sync does for me, which is bluetooth audio/music off of usb, and hands free calling. What else does sync really do that anyone uses? I know it does some sort of 911 thing kind of like on-star on GM, but the odds of both my phone and the head unit working after a crash that i cant walk away from seems pretty unlikely to me. does sync do anything else important?

sync has been a horrible disappointment to me, both in my '11 f-150 and '15 mustang. They work 90% of the time, and that is not nearly enough.

on my mustang, i listen to bluetooth audio 99% of the time. And the mustang unit usually pairs with my phone when i get in. 10% of the time it doesnt, and then it switches to am/fm radio, and just BLARES the music. I have my phone turned all the way up, but it still is softer than the baseline used for the radio. This is just bad programming. My Toyota works perfectly every time. and when it doesnt link, like when my phone is off, it calmly waits till i decide what to listen to instead of blaring the damn radio. (this happened with my samsung note 3 and my nexus 6, so these are mainstream phones)

Obviously i didnt buy the mustang for the radio, but this annoys me far more than i would have guessed when i bought it.
