You're misunderstanding.

OTD includes registration/tax
Purchase price is the price you actually paid for the car before variable expenses like registration and tax.
Yep, definitely misunderstood.

Tax and title is around 2300, so purchase price would be like 35.1ish?

Why does everyone always list OTD instead of purchase price?
Because with a price, of anything, I want to know exactly what I need to pay to get the item in my hands. It's irrelevant to me if that money's going to the dealer or the government. And knowing the OTD price in advance can help in negotiations.

And it's irrelevant in a price comparison thread to post what you paid your state for taxes.

Right, OTD needs to be with a breakdown. Those of you who pay state tax are lucky, they only get you once. Here in SC sales tax is capped at $300, but every year they tax you on a depreciating asset. Conservative state, my ass!

Pd 40,800, msrp right at 43,000, so not much of a deal, I didn't buy straight off the lot though, ordered it end of September and took till New Year's Day to get it, which was the longest wait ever! Paid like 670 for my taxes, located in NC

What do you guys think about 37.4 OTD for a GT premium with reverse sense, voice activated nav, and PP?

550 more to have it shipped 1400 miles.
That looks like a good deal even with shipping. Best I've seen local in Houston GT prem pp rev nav. msrp 40880 -4560 dealer discount -500 ford offer=35820
+2293 (6.25% tax)+ 900 delivery+ 98 ( title, registration , plate)= $39056

invoice pricing----gt prem 33487+rev264+pp2227+nav710=36680 +(ttl+del)3291=$39971

Best del I've been offered same car GT prem w/pp/rev/nav OTD was $38700 for one that was on the lot. one the dealer had order allready GT prem w/401a/pp/rev/nav OTD $40500

Wait...WHAT?!

Maybe I should just wait for the 17s to come out to get a 2016.

well yes, after 5 car purchase in the past 5 years I've learned that if u want to get the upmost best deal you need to purchase it on Jan, and get the year model before and the color that no ones wants.

So a 2015 that had been on the lot a while, dealer was probably paying interest on so he/she gave you his incentive and everything. I'm surprised you didn't take their lunch money also

How do you approach the negotiation?

How do you approach the negotiation?
Buying car checklists
1) kbb.com (trade in value dealership vs consumer)
2) estimate from carmax, go to truecar.com estimate your value sign up and contact dealership via email and see what they will sell you the car for. Including any employee pricing (AT&T)
3) visit several Lexus dealerships to test drive (the dealership you don't want to buy from) get an estimate, so you car use that later to fight against another dealership in price about their offer.
4) research the car you want online check dealership inventories ( they will want to sell you the car on their lot vs you making a order online), when walkin to the dealership pretend you know nothing about the car you've researched.
4.5) find out what is your financial comfort zone how much you're willing to add to your current car note. Make sure you don't tell them keep it to yourself
5) in conversation say that you will deposit 1 to 2 k (so they will work with you knowing that you're serious)
6) dealership are here to make money so with have all your documents in hand ready to(prices) negotiate a "fair" price so you and the dealership will come down to a consensus, make sure you negotiate one price at the time (new car, then the trade in value, if you're confused at the time take a step back and study the numbers)
6.5) while you trade in your car at the dealership they should give you back your taxes on your previous car that goes towards your new vehicle
7) while test driving mention different car models other then Lexus that you are genuinely interested in.
8) poker face it's just a car dont show them how much you love the car you actually want.
9) finance make sure you get a low rate and don't settle for less
10) check for current incentives because you work at ATT and rebates the manufacturer offer at the current time (Google that) (mention that only at the end !!!!)
