HOA rules? loud car

I'm buying a house this year and i been looking at house with HOA. I have loud as exhaust system . What is your guys experience with these communities?

HOA communities can be a real PITA. I was treasurer & president for 9 years @ the last one we lived in & I moved because a small group of very vocal ppl "took control" and appointed themselves the clipboard gestapo.

I would read the rules VERY carefully & make sure you can live within what's written. Keep in mind in most of these communities it's almost impossible to change outdated rules & if you get a few extremists in there they can make life miserable for the rest. Most ppl will not bother to attend meetings or participate in any way unless they are getting tagged for a viloation or there is talk of increased dues. There were years I would put a proposed dues bump on the annual agenda (and see it was at the very end) just to get ppl to attend & at lease listen to the other crap going on.

So, read the rules, drive around the 'hood, talk to as many current ppl as you can (especially anyone who has a house listed) and ask about enforcement. While you want them to enforce the rules, you don't want them nitpicking or reading more into whats written that was ever really intended.

if you like the house get it, and change your exhaust back to stock. Or at least something not loud. Lots of people in HOA communities move there because they are doctors, nurses, pilots, etc. with odd sleep schedules and they want to minimize noise problems.

I live in one. My advice would be to avoid any community with a HOA. This has nothing to do with car noise either, just my experience. I was also a Treasurer and the whole experience was the biggest PITA.

Specifically avoided such "communities" ("communes?") when home buying. I'm also a HAM (amateur radio operator), so I would run afoul of the HOA police by hanging antennas...

There's a notorious one where I live that went after a couple for hanging a laundry line in their back yard (mostly out of view from the street!) to save energy when drying their clothes :doh:

Mine is like $60 a year, and keeps people from parking on the grass, boats in their yard etc...nothing major.

Few people throw magnets on their work vans at the end of the day...better than nothing IMO

I'm in Plainfield and live in a house with HOA. Are you looking in Plainfield? Either way my HOA has no rules on loudest of your car. Just the neighbors are the ones to complain. No one around me seems to mind my exhaust system. I have borla s-type and H pipe. No one has complain about the sound. But I'm friends with half of the neighborhood. And there are other cars in this area that are as loud if not louder. Just drive nice by your area and if people don't like it then to bad for them haha.

No shit. I mean, I get not wanting a free for all, but there are _laws_ for those issues with law enforcement, I'll paint my house whatever f***ing color I want

We live at the beach, beautiful neighborhood, but it's definitely got that beach vibe which is probably a HOA nightmare :lol:

My BIL lives in one up in PA, he had to submit - in writing - a request to put a decorative concrete mailbox statue/sculpture of a pineapple (we got it for them), I would've probably put up a big ol' concrete johnson ...

HOA rules are not Enforceable by law.

It depends on the state that you live in. I believe that in FL with the homestead exemption, only the IRS or HOA can place a lien on your home. I would contact a real estate attorney. Thankfully, my brother n law is a real estate attorney here in FL.

I had a HOA with my last house. mainly no trailers, parking on grass, work trucks. They wouldn't mind if you had a trailer for the weekend but nothing permanent. I had a silverado with an 8'' lift and full exhaust and had no problems because I was respectful. Same deal in my new place with the mustang.

HOA's suck, unfortunately some places like around where I live, if you live in a neighborhood, then you're dealing with an HOA. They are in every single neighborhood here.
