2019 GT500 Leaked Documents Show 200MPH Top Speed, HUD

Last week we showed you the first look at CAD images of the 2019 GT500’s 5.2-liter supercharged “Predator” engine and now additional sleuthing of the same Ford Motorcraft service website has dug up even more details about the next halo Mustang.

Ford service procedure documents now appear to confirm that the upcoming GT500 will have a top speed of 200MPH or higher according to the vehicle’s speedometer verification procedure.

A heads-up display (HUD) for the GT500 will also act as a shift indicator, among other things — and the appearance of a flexplate instead of a flywheel indicates that an automatic transmission, possibly a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) will be at least an option for the next Shelby GT500.

Not all of it is good news however, as Ford’s VIN decoder indicates that Ford will eschew the GT350 and its naturally aspirated 5.2-liter flat plane crank engine in favor of the GT500’s supercharged cross-plane variety, in addition to the 5.0-liter Coyote and 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, which could mean that the current-gen GT350 will end production after the 2018 model year.
