2015 Hennessey HPE700 Mustang Tops 195 MPH

The 2015 Mustang GT got a big tuner upgrade when John Hennessey and team showed the supercharged Hennessey HPE700 last October.

The 2.9L Whipple supercharger, upgraded fuel injectors and custom engine calibration helps push this modified 2015 Mustang GT to 717-horsepower / 632 lb-ft.

During its testing and development, Hennessey was able to run 0-60 in 3.6 seconds and quarter mile times of only 11.2 seconds @ 131mph.  But that wasn’t good enough for John Hennessey.

After receiving an invitation from Continental Tires to bring the development vehicle to its Ulvade Proving Grounds for an all-out assault on the 8.5 mile High Speed Oval track, John and his son JP made the trip from Hennessey headquarters in Sealy to Ulvade, Texas, for a round trip of more than 500 miles in the HPE700 Mustang.

The team waited for the morning dew to burn off and prepped the vehicle to complete a few warm up laps around the large oval, after which John Hennessey decided to open up the HPE700’s supercharged 5.0L Coyote V8 engine and see how far he could push the car at high speeds.

“Cruising through the final turn I was trying to maintain 120-130 mph while building some speed as I neared the straight”, said Hennessey.  “When I hit the straight, I wanted to be around 140 mph and then let all of the Mustang’s horsepower run wide open. The car pulled very strong and just kept pulling.  I hit a pretty nasty bump around 170 mph and kept my foot on the gas.”

When they returned to the pits, Racelogic engineer, Joe Lachovsky was able to confirm that the 2015 HPE700 Supercharged Mustang had recorded a top speed of 195.2 mph as validated by the VBox 3i GPS-based data logging system.
