I purchased a set of SPL LCAs and tension rods a couple of months back since my stock LCA bushings are toast. I was wondering if anyone had any installation tips and tricks (both with the install of the new arms and rods but also with the removal of the OEM ones). Any guidance will be greatly appreciated :like:

The service manual states that a ride height sensor recalibration is necessary any time the LCAs are replaced. Has anyone run into issues if the recalibration is not performed?

I never re-calibrated mine. Not an endorsement - but it clearly never caused major problems.

There's a quick and dirty way to recalibrate them. Use Forscan to read the ride height sensor voltage with the suspension hanging in the air. Then swap out the LCA's and reinstall the sensors, leaving them a bit loose so you can nudge them if you need to, and measure the voltage again. If the voltage is the same as when you started, you're good to go. I had a faulty sensor that was cutting out intermittently and I replaced it. New sensor, same voltage at full droop, job done.

Any ideas how I can tighten this nut to 160 ft lbs? Too tight for any socket to fit better the nut and the bottom of the strut....

Whose spec is the 160 - 180 ft lbs torque? The factory torque for both of the outer control arm nuts is 76 ft lbs if you've got an SVT vehicle.

Yep I know. SPL installation instructions state 160 ft lbs for the tension rod knuckle bolts and 180 ft lbs for the LCA knuckle bolts....

Either it's a faulty material (sure looks good based on the photos), or the torque spec is wrong. Either the wrench is bad or the 180 is meant for something else.

SPL makes a quality part (the parts you installed are on my wishlist), and their directions seem really clear, so I'm wondering if maybe your torque wrench is off?

I have no reason to believe the wrench is off. I have the calibration certificate and I've been using it without issue for the past year (wheel lugs, caliper nuts, and all manner of other jobs). Also none of the other studs from SPL failed at the same torque.

I'm going to contact SPL this week to see what they say.

This was a GIANT pain in the ass but the car is back to stock now.

Yeah, if that stud was faulty, I'd expect to see some corrosion where it sheared, or some sign of poor quality whatsoever. It looks to me like it was just overstressed.

Let us know what SPL says. As these are on my list, it would be nice to know the outcome. Definitely glad to hear this failure wasn't on the track!

Yeah I don't know. I'm not a metallurgist. I don't know how or why it would be overstressed. I just went down and conducted a quick experiment. I tightened my wheel lugs with a different torque wrench and then tested the one I used last night and it clicked at the same torque value.

Weird. I bet SPL makes it right though. Let us know the outcome.
They WILL make it right…..theyre one of the few companies that stand behind their products. call turner monday and theyll send out new ones but i have all their stuff on both cars and had never had an issue.

are those the new tapered bolts they released or the old style
