So what is the internal component weakest link in the Coyote shortblock?

Anyone know?

Pistons or rods? I am aware of the sleeves but is 1000 hp a possibility if the pistons and rods were upgraded?

The Aluminator uses the same block but just pitons and rods, correct?

I think for the s550 coyote the weakest link is the piston. I believe they have forged rods and crank with cast pistons.

weakest link is the OPG's and crank sprocket.

You could run 1k HP on these blocks with rods, pistons and definitely ARP fasteners... definitely the fasteners.

We pushed over 1k on the aluminator and it was the stock fasteners that didn't like it.

Once the dust settles from my initial purchase of the car, I am going to get started with making it mine. I have been doing alot of reading. Definetly sounds like the OPGs need to be taken care of.

Is running an ATI Harmonic Balancer, worth anything for a guy not wanting to pop the front timing cover off his new ride? Say 800 or less crank hp.

Probably should just bite the bullet and get it done, just seems like a long day of bending over and trying not to screw up virgin paint lol.

When I spoke to Ford directly they told me the stock crank balancer is fine upto 500WHP and upto 7500rpm. They said if going FI or revving beyond 7500rpm then something like an ATI balancer is recommended and is a modification they made to their own Cobra Jet cars.

Do the Cobra jet cars have better OPGs and Sprockets?

No idea, all I know is they have BOSS 302 tensioners, ATI crank balancers. Not sure about OPGs and sprockets sorry.

Sorry. I was discounting the OPG and Timing since they are already known.

So fasteners really is the "next" piece.

Is there a girdle out there yet for the Coyote?

The Aluminator block and the stock Coyote block is the same though. Correct?

I destroyed my head gasket around cylinders 6 7 and 8. So...That's apparently a possible problem. Motor is apart and apparently pistons and rods looked great.

788 hp is a phenomenal number. Thats a bunch of crank HP. This is the first I have heard of the head gaskets giving up. I imagine that is a good deal of boost.

I don't know. I have been searching around the interwebs and I have an email in to one of my friends that works at Roush in Livonia.

I would really like to know if those are getting by with a balancer and 10 rib kit.

I was really happy with the power level on the stock block. ARP studs and bolts will hopefully prevent this going forward. Motor was on ~15 psi. Oh well - time to build it better and stronger.

The reason for the questions is instead of buying a short block just buying some pistons, rods, hardware and reassemble vice buying a Aluminator if there are no block differences.
