Under the Raptor's muscular hood will be a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that will make more than the current 6.2-liter V8's 411 horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque, though we don't have exact power figures for the next-gen Raptor quite yet.

Also new will be a 10-speed automatic transmission, which will replace the current six-speed unit and ought to provide appropriate ratios for both rock crawling and high-speed desert trail running.

2016 mustang (speculation): Sync3 AND 10-speed auto. It makes sense since I ordered the 2015 that those two will be included in the 2016. Lol.

Yah it's pretty bad @$$...no doubt. I mean Ford knows trucks...nothing comes close to this thing. And seeing the new 10 speed transmission means it's coming for the Mustang also...even possibly next year's model to 1 up the Camaro.

You know a day ago, I'd say doubtful. Now seeing it in the Raptor means it's definitely coming sooner rather then later..and most likely like you said in the 2016. As I said above, this is one thing that they can add to the 2016 to even further extend it out from the 2016 Camaro.

That would be crazy if Ford put that new transmission in the '16 model year. I am guessing '17 but who knows now:D

I mean think about it. Camaro is coming out and obviously had the 2015 Mustang to set the bar for them to possibly 1 up.

Now Ford can add the 10 speed and basically say hey, this is a major upgrade just 1 model year in and now even gives you more then the Camaro with their 8 speed. (and they've done this before)

Like I said, I wouldn't have believed it till 2017, but now I truly believe the 2016 will have the 10 speed. It's the perfect thing for them to do to really set the Mustang above the 2016 Camaro even more.

Wow, the 10 speed is coming already. Way earlier than anyone thought. Could Ford possibly do anything to top this day? Lots of great stuff.

Thinking that waiting till 17 for a Mustang is looking like a solid idea right now as we might see this transmission make its way over.

If the 2015 MY runs long, and production of the 2016 doesn't start until October..there is a chance the 2016 Mustang could get the 10 speed.

My guess is it'll make an appearance to cut short the Camaro's "ZOMG WE HAZ TEH 8 SPEEDZ™" debut

It could be in the 16 easily to one up Camaro. They need to do something in 2016 other then Sync.

If there is a 5.0 in the Raptor as an option, then it's definitely coming in the 2016 Mustang. There is no point in waiting because it would continue to help Ford dominate sales over the Camaro.

100% agreed.

Hey guys look we have an 8 speed.

Yes, please
Looking forward to a 9 or 10 speed in the Mustang for '16. That would be sweet.

However, saying that Ford will have 1 up on the Camaro will be short-lived, maybe 1 year at most, if at all, since Ford and GM developed this transmission jointly.

GM is advertising a 9-speed in that new Buick. My guess is the Camaro, Vette, and all GM rear-wheel drive applications get this by '17 at the latest.

If it is, that would be awesome. I just can't see it happening until 17 at the earliest. Of course, I'd love to be completely wrong. I didn't think Ford would build another supercar and yet here we are today with a GT taking a bow.

Wasnt this the transmission Ford and Chevy were working on together? If so what would be stopping Chevy from using it in theirs? I could be delusional or getting facts mixed up but I remembered hearing Ford and Chevy were working on a 10 speed together.
