So I gave in to FOMO and just bought a 2020 HEP R sight unseen. It's going straight to Shelby in Nevada for the Signature Edition package and some other goodies before coming home. I wanted to make the car as musch of an homage to the 1965 Flying Mustang as possible, so I let them talk me into a rollbar. They recommended painting it Guardsman Blue, but I thought black would be more true to the original. My wife says I'm crazy and that blue would look much better, and I don't disagree. I'm torn between what would look good in the short term vs. what would be more classy (and perhaps valuable someday) in the long-term. Somebody help me make a decision!

I think the blue (since its a darker blue) pops very nicely with the stripes. IMHO

This one. Looks like the same one Watson Racing sells.
OK, yep, thats a Watson. The car will have to be drilled for the rear support arms. Also, that will add about 70 pounds to the car. Then you will have to buy harnesses. I forget what I paid for a set of Schroth harnesses, but I believe they were about $800 for a set of 2?

Just making sure you know that before moving forward.

I have matte black. I am using black harnesses. It depends on what you are trying to do. If you want it to stand out, go with a color. If you want it to blend in, go with black.

So lets say you get guardsman blue paint, what color harness will you go with? Schroth only make so many colors and I don't know how you would tie that in.

Go with what you, or more importantly your wife wants.
The whole keeping with the original theme will probably only be important to you and a few others. Won’t effect the value down the road.
Be sure and post plenty of pictures for the redo.
BTW...I checked with Shelby a while back when they pulled new Shelby seat covers off an eBay auction. Forgot why they pulled them but I wanted to buy them at asking price and have a local pro install them. Shelby wouldn’t do my interior if that’s all I wanted done. I’ll keep checking ;-)

Personally, I would go with the blue or Wimbledon white for the roll bar.

Black would blend in with the seats and interior and not show.

I went with twister orange to match the exterior of my car.

Thanks, I hadn't thought about the weight. Are harnesses a requirement? I was hoping to still use the original seat belts.

You can. On my car using it on the street, I just use the standard seat belt. If it was me, I wouldn't put a cage in the car unless you were going to track it. If you were going to track it, you would definitely want harnesses.

You would be adding 70 pounds to the car and SA would have to drill 12 holes in your trunk area. On top of that, your seat delete will have to have holes put in it for the rear arms to go through.

I wish these were available when I bought mine. What is the date on these harnesses. Like a helmet, they are dated and need to be replaced every so often.

Congrats on the car. I think the blue would pop in the car if you're going more for looks. It would potentially show nicks/chips a little more though.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. In the end I went with the blue, because the wife seemed really annoyed that I'd pick any other color (though she thinks Wimbledon White would 'pop'), and she's allowing this insanity so who am I to argue. Shelby sent over a pic of a blue rollcage, as well as some crraaaazy blue and white calipers (that I'm not getting; I'm good with stock bright-ass red) Check em out.

First thing that came to mind was WW with Guardsman stripes the same width as those on the body of the car.....

not necessarily, if they take the one piece RSD out and replace it with an aftermarket option like Watson does.
