I wanted to change my differential oil and I know the car has to be leveled for that I only have two jackstands and one floor jack
Can I lift the rear with my 3 ton floor jack and two jackstands in the front? Or should I buy more jackstands or maybe another Jack?

I would suggest buying another set of Jack stands, using a jack on the diff is asking for problems IMO. Also, if you’re going to be under the car (to do the diff fluid) do not EVER get under a car that’s supported by just a jack, you need (at least) Jack stands to get under it.

You can, but I would never ever get under a car that's only supported by a jack. So either way if you need the car up and level you need 2 more stands.

Ok thanks for the quick response. I’m at the automotive store I will pick up a set of jack stands

I don’t know about Mustangs but I do it all the time on the GTO. I’ll put the jack stands on and then come back and lift higher on each side on the jack slots slightly raising until I have the space I need. Chuck the front tire also. I know it goes with out saying but sometimes we forget. I don’t have any diff issues with the GOAT because of doing this.

I have jack pads on all 4 pinch welds, so after jacking up the car I'd place a jack stand there. But to jack the car up, can I jack it right next to the pinch welds?

I routinely jack my car up by centering the jack under the rear gear housing.

It doesn't stay there though. I always set the car on jack stands.

So this is the stronger one? I was looking for the cover to be rusted

I think some of the concern with jacking up an IRS rear (like the S550) from just the pumpkin is that the weight of the vehicle is now on the rear diff flanges and associated mounting bolts.

I don't have a copy of it or I'd post it.

Ford has a picture of jacking and stand points for the mustang. The diff is a jacking point according to Ford.

If I can find the pic I'll re-post it.
