Congratulations on your GT350!Anyways, I get home and check the receipt. They put in 9.33 quarts of
XO*5w50*QGT..
Same here.I change my own oil because I trust myself more.
They're morons.Just called and spoke with 2 technicians. Both said mustang gt with track or performance pack requires 5w50, even though the cap and owners manual says 5w20. I can upload the receipt in a few to show.
AgreedYour dealer is an idiot.
At this point, I'm pretty sure that if you idiot-proof anything, the universe just builds a better idiot to get around it.dealership should be idiot proof by now. Enter the car into the computer, and it tells them exactly what to do.
Sorry been out a bit. They told me to ignore what the oil cap and owners manual says. That's whats bugging me. Drove 30 miles this evening, wondering if I am doing damage. Did not notice anything our of ordinary.Ok what does the oil cap say on it? Just look at it.... If this helps you... John

looks like you will need to get another oil change :faint:That's whats bugging me. Drove 30 miles this evening, wondering if I am doing damage. Did not notice anything our of ordinary.
It is unlikely that you are doing damage. Remember what the numbers mean. Both 5W20 and 5W40 are approximately the same viscosity cold, and both are much thicker cold than they are at operating temperature. Once you get up to 185F the 5W20 is going to be much thinner than the 5W40, but the engine doesn't blow up while it's warming up. The main driver in cars going to lower viscosity is for CAFE standards, and it is unlikely to cause any problems, and may actually be better. But, as others have said, the recommended oil is 5W20 (5W30 for track use). That of course begs the question, if 5W30 is better for track use, why isn't it better the rest of the time? Answer - it is, but Ford gets credit for a 1-2% fuel economy advantage that you will never see at the cost of a little reduction in engine life. But, as long as the engine lasts 100K, Ford doesn't care, it's well out of warranty anyway, so if using 5W20 lowers engine life from 200K to 150K, it just doesn't matter.Sorry been out a bit.
