I posted this in the wheels and tire forum, but got no responses. It seems that forum is mainly for wheels to enhance the cars looks. So I'm sorry if this is in the wrong spot.

I've got a manual pp gt and I ordered race stars, but not sure what tires to get. I was planning on a bias ply, but not sure how they will work for Saturday night car meets. I am now thinking I should maybe go with a drag radial for dual purpose track and street, but fear I will lose performance at the track.

Any opinions are welcome.

The rims I have on order are 18x5 fronts and 17x9.5 rears.

I'm running 119.5 in quarter now on street tires to give an idea of where the car is for performance.

Thanks

I'm running similar trap speeds (117-118 mph in the 1/4 mile) and have tried a few different drag radials. My favorite is the M&H Racemasters. Super sticky at the track (I've cut a 1.59 sixty foot on stock suspension and consistently in the low 1.6's) with good manners and tread life for street duty.

The compounds on the better DR's will be plenty sticky, your issue is sidewall stiffness with a stick car. With a 17" rear your best bet is a 28" DR.

Mickey Thompson makes the ET Street Pro, which is as close to a slick as you can get in a 28x9.5 street tire.

That's what my concern is. I want a soft side wall for the manual, but the life of a radial.

I will look into the street et pro.

Isn't the Street Pro only available in a 15"?

I'm running Hoosier 28x10x17 bias ply slick for the track. No street use though. Wondering how many passes I'll get out of them.

I am interested in this as well. I thought they used to sell a 17" mickey thompson et street bias ply tire. I am curious how much better a drag radial is on a 17" rim vs 19". I just want a tire that a can dump the clutch on without riding it out.

Being a manual try to find a bias ply slick over a drag radial. The little bit of extra side wall wrinkle might help you axles last a little longer.

Are there any bias ply tires in that size that are dot approved? I am not a fan of changing tires at the track.
