I searched and didn’t find anything on this setup. Perhaps because it’s a stupid idea.

I am looking to get some better traction out back while keeping good esthetics up front. I am considering a new set of Welds that are 17x10 out back and 20x9 up front. Running 305/45/17s and 285/35/20s respectively.

Online calculators show that the diameters are very close. Am I overlooking something obvious here that would make this combo a bad choice?

Hey this is Junior from N4SM, I had the same wheel and tire combo on my S550 Mustang. What it comes down to is what you are going to be doing with the car on that wheel and tire setup.
If you are looking to take the car to the track and run a time with those front wheels then it won't be the best setup for that. If it is mostly a street car with some spirited driving you will be fine. I had no issues with that size on the street.

Thanks Junior! The car never sees track time so that’s good to hear. It’s purely a street driven weekend car. 👍

Compare the rear to your stock size. That will show how much it will be off on the speedo. I run 285/35R20 in the summer compared to stock size of 235/50r18 which I run in the winter

If it never sees track time, why not get 19x10 front with a 285/35/19 and 19x11 rear with a 305/35/19 drag radial then the wheels will match and you'll have plenty of traction on the street for spirited launches.

BTW those sizes are real close to the PP1 sizes in diameter, close enough that you won't have to adjust the speedo.

This is my exact set up, works very well and the fit looks good.
