Because the S550 design is inherently stiffer than the S197.......

Edited to add:

Take a look at this article. Scroll down several pages and you'll see the S550 structural rigidity improvements over the S197

http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15917

Bending stiffness - 21% improvement
Torsional stiffness - 31% improvement
Ah thanks, I was trying to find that doc.

Yeah that's true for the coupe model, the very next slide talks about the vert.

D'oh, sorry, yes, I quoted the coupe figures.

Weird that for the convertible it was:

Bending stiffness S550 is WORSE than the S197

Yet...

Torsional stiffness S550 is 19% BETTER than the S197.

I thought torsional stiffness was the same as bending stiffness......clearly not lol.

I suspect the quote I read (gawd knows where) that mentioned the S550 'vert being as still as the S197 coupe must have been referencing the latter, torsional, stiffness.

Without taking this off topic, I'd be interested to know the difference between torsional and bending stiffness.

:)

I think this image explains it well enough

Wooting with 800+ hp would buckle the car like an old hardwood floors. Ok I'm exaggerating a little bit :D

You are correct, the S550 Convertible's Torsional Rigidy is around 17,000lb ft. Previously, the 2005 was around 10,000. Rigidy increased around 2007, 2010 and 2013 as well.

The coupe is around 30,000-31,000 and is as solid as most Sports Cars.

Plus the hood is reminiscent of shelby series 1.

:clap2:

Best one so far IMO. Looks like it is actually producible (not too different from the 350) and to my eye, the headlight unit looks to be a tiny bit bigger which makes it more proportionate to the grill opening.
See how the "pits" are on the side? The Powerdome will be in the middle.

That would need new rear quarter sheet metal. Base model probably wouldn't look right with it, would it? Or are you just changing the door?

That render is the best looking one IMO. Ford could just slap me in my face and I would still beg them to take my money. Twin turbo eco v8 ? Yes please. In truth I would probably do it with the twin v6 version...

Hello Chaz long without seeing you here in the forums. I feel that your computer not for more, you know that long were speculating on the s550 (you, me and spyderios walking also disappeared) and good time after we were copied by the other forums but converted to this forum in the first to discover the s550 and you were the one that came closest ahead of magazines like car and driver. So I'm glad to see even visiting this forum a big greeting
