Hi,

Has anyone here purchased winter tires for the 2015 Mustang GT? Right now I have the following specs:

Front: 255 / 40 ZR19 96Y
Rear: 275 / 40 ZR19 101Y

They are the Pirellis that come with the performance pack.

Thing is where I live getting the rear tires in that size for winter is quite difficult (and expensive).

So I was wondering if the larger rear tires were just optional for performance in the summer? Could I have both front and rear as 255 / 40 for winter?

Thank you

Sorry just to add, this is what I'm looking to buy...

Either the smaller front and larger rear Pirellis:

PIRELLI Winter SottoZero 3 255/40 R19 100 V XL
PIRELLI Winter SottoZero 3 275/40 R19 101 W

Or the Dunlops which are the same size all round:

DUNLOP SP Winter Sport 3D R01 MFS 255/40 R19 100 V XL

I would really prefer the Dunlops. They're cheaper and given my pretty terrible experience thus far driving with Pirellis, I'd prefer to stay away from that brand if possible

That would work, I am running 245 square winter tires with those wheels and they work fine. Just be careful not to hit a curb

Thanks for the reply. Please may you explain what you mean about not hitting a curb?

You could but I recommend doing the 275/40 squared. Fits fine on the 19x9 up front.
Okay thanks, but that's my problem... The 275 / 40 / R19 combo where I live is rare in winter tire form and thus I have severly limited options. Unless I want to wait 2 weeks to get some shipped from another country, my only choice is the Pirellis and they're $150 more expensive (each) than the Dunlops.

Is there any major disadvantage or problem with running on the 255 / 40 on all 4 wheels?

245 profile is really close to the rim unlike a 275 profile sits slightly over/balloons over the side of the rim. Also a 275 would not be good for the snow. You want a thinner tire to cut through the snow and water. 275 wouldn't cut through and would just on top of the snow

Use 245's squared. I got them and they look normal to me.

Its more than a 245 haha. 245 looks so skinny on a 9.5 wheel

I checked my car papers and legally I'm only allowed to have 255 / 40 on the front tires. I can have either 255 or 275 on the rear.

So it looks like I'll be getting the Dunlops all round. Saves a bunch of cash anyway.

Thanks for the info guys
