I noticed the day after washing my car that the windshield appeared to have tons of tiny little specs of dirt all over it. I tried to clean them off but it turns out that most of them are tiny chips or pits in the windshield (as well as a few small scratches). Never had an issue with a windshield before so I'm not sure if I should take this to the dealership or to an auto glass shop. Pretty sure they weren't there when I bought the car. I'm not sure what caused them, but there are a large number of them all over the windshield so I'm figuring it needs to be replaced.

Did you drive behind a sand/construction truck recently?

And as far as fixing it, I have no idea outside of replacing it which may not be worth it if it's not easily noticeable.

Not that I can remember, but that was my thought as well. It's not that noticeable unless the sun is shining through the windshield, but it's bothersome enough to me that I'd like it fixed.

I would fix it. You could hold off to see if it gets worse or the glare issue becomes really annoying but those chips will likely get bigger and could end up cracking. More of an issue in climates with constant freezing/unfreezing tho.

I've noticed that with my prior vehicles it varies

2010 Challenger= it was horrible
2008 Mustang GT = not bad
2011 Mustang V6 = worse than 08
2012 Edge with Soundscreen = worse then the Challenger

It was definitely there when you got it from the dealer...

Have them replace it

Have you looked closely at the paint on the front of your car? If there is no evidence of road debris damaging the paint I would think you may want to discuss a warranty claim on the windshield with your dealer.

Are you sure it's not paint overspray?

My 2011 had it BAD. I've never had it on any other vehicle. My guess was Ford uses a particularly vulnerable glass on Mustangs. It was so bad, it looked like a kaleidoscope when the sun came through.
Is there a product you could have laminated to the exterior of the glass to protect it when it's brand new?

This is another reason why I am going to inspect the car before accepting it. And
I want it out in the sun when I look it over.

Under FL insurance law they will fix rock chips in the windshield for free (Safelite) under your insurance. Does not cost you a penny.

You can also opt to replace it at a discounted price; I think $200-300, but I don't know if they have 2015 windshields in stock yet since the car is so new.

Someone in another thread already had their windshield replaced (or is scheduled to have it replaced).

May have happened during transport since blowing sand may happen in Florida. We have that problem here in Colorado during the winter but I do not plan to drive mine much in the Winter that's what my truck is for.

I had this problem on my current Infiniti. Turns out it was an animal trapped in our garage, ---it was climbing over the car

Thanks for all the replies. I'll take it into the dealership in a couple of weeks since I'm off work the week after Christmas and see if I can get them to replace it under warranty. If not I'll try going through my insurance or pay out of pocket to have it done.
