Depends how lucky you are. Back in the '80s got a written warning for over 165 in a 45. Only wrote me up for 110 though despite me leaving him in the dust when he was doing 125. No, not fleeing. Had no idea he was back there. LoL
I had a "friend" that was driving his Hellcat Charger doing 130+ when way back in the rear view he saw some red and blues flashing. He decided to go ahead and pull over. The Texas DPS trooper got to the car he was none to pleased. Trooper said he clocked my "friend" doing 99 mph in a 70 zone. My buddy was very pleased to eat that ticket. LOL.
Had my buddy had been inclined to step it up a bit and not stop, no way the trooper catches up to him but being the law abiding citizen he is (only speeds) he decided to stop and wait.

It is amazing what modern cars can do from the factory. Police escort poker run and my old Hellcat could run and had plenty left in the tank. Was loud but never felt unsafe.

I could never figure out why I didn't get ticketed or arrested for that 165+ run. Even a few Leo's over the years didn't know or wouldn't say. Maybe they didn't think they could make it stick (but why not try) or the story might be embarrassing to them (don't see why).

It was on a road off I-10 far west of Phoenix. Straight as an arrow. Nothing on it but abandoned farms. I went many miles down it to confirm road condition and no human/vehicles and turned around to make my run. As I was making the U-turn a sheriff deputy comes over a rise and sees me turning and taking off. I ran it up to over 165 for a good distance and then pulled off to cool down and eat an apple.

Then I hear a distant siren and soon the deputy roars up and slides to a stop. He and his trainee get out and started the 3rd degree. They thought I was running from them but seemed to realize if true why would I be standing beside the road chewing on an apple? When asked if I knew how fast I was going, I said no I was watching the tach. LoL Eventually the one asking the questions says I'm giving you a written warning for 110 in a 45 zone.

Now maybe they had some rule they had to maintain sight or get a plate to give a ticket and they certainly did not have me in sight by the time I pulled off the road. I don't know.

And they certainly knew I was going over 110, not to mention a warning for 110 does not seem like an approved exercise of discretion. Still scratch my head anytime I think of this.
