Hey Guys, I have the roush phase 1 on my 15 GT and was wanting to do a tune and maybe drop a pulley size to like 82 mm. Would I need to do fuel upgrades like injectors or a boost a pump? Or what if I stayed with the 85mm I have on there now and had a tune would they want me to do a BAP? Thanks guys!

Think you should be fine pump and injector wise with an 82mm pulley. I guess I would say though it all depends on what your future plans are. As for tuning, I believe you will need a new IAT2 temp sensor and harness to replace the Roush one, and from what I here it’s a night and day difference between the Roush tune and say a VMP one. I will shortly be going with a VMP tune on mine but also doing LTH’s, JLT intake and a few other VMP part’s. Hope this helps you out.

Talk to VMP Performance. My 13 MT-82 ran no additional fuel changes with an 82mm pulley the twin 60TB and the closed airbox. The Gen3 may vary on that slightly depending on how much better airflow is. On my 14 6R80 I added the BAP as a precautionary when I added the larger JLT 123mm but still on the 47's. I was shifting at 7300RPM though I had the rev limiter set at 7700. That said much depends on how how you wish to take the RPM at WOT. VMP told me on my 14 I could drop to a 79 and add a twin 67mm to the JLT123mm CAI but that I would not be able to take it as high because at that boost and higher airflow level I would go static on the 47's much earlier so the next step was 56# FI's or larger. This is all with respect to running on good 93 btw. Enter E-85 and its a whole different equation. You will also need to find out what plugs you are running. You may need to go a step colder depending on the setup and the tuner.............

My current 17 6R80 setup runs an 80mm on a 2300 TVS with a BAP, ID1050x FI's. VMP twin 67mm TB and JLT 125mm CAI. It shifts at 7800 WOT. Again in a 93 tune currently.

Either way talk to who you want to tune with. They will tell you what you need and their preferred components for the power level you seek to achieve with your setup. That is the best route to go. You can get opinions all day long on here from people talking first hand or second hand. The best bet again is to choose a tuner or talk to several tuners and then make your decision. Even they all vary in what they like in a given setup to make power through their tune. Good luck.

Remember that tuners cannot afford to grenade a setup. That spreads like wildfire. So most will handle the power side properly. It's the hard part that separates the men from the boys....by the hard part I refer to idle and drive ability which is what you are mostly doing with the car. So pick wisely. I am retuning in another week. I hope to have a tune with much improved drive ability results. Weather will be the hold up on getting it done sooner than later. The dyno and base tune data logging will be easily done regardless of weather. Idle and drive ability will require some dry clear days. Then of course a trip to the track with some sticky tires to see the 1-2, 2-3 shifts.

Thanks for the great information guys I really appreciate it! Do you mind me asking what tuner your using now ugstsng? And have you used anyone else than your current tuner? I’ll def ask them about the IAT sensor VDB, didn’t even think of that! I mainly will build onto this setup as time goes on but wanted to increase power slowly as time and money allows but for now I just want a better drivability setup and some more safe power and move on from the roush canned tune. Then once I get the need for speed start adding on the fuel components and add a smaller pulley later down the road.
