Been digging around a while now for new wheel and tire upgrades from my 2018 GT's 235/50zr18 x 8" square setup. Shown below is the exact setup from a CJ Pony Parts video (except for the tire brand). Before I pull the trigger, some questions for the group:
  1. I don't have a Michelin budget so after some research settled on these Falken's for a "value" summer tire since they were well-reviewed on Tire Rack. I doubt I'll ever track the car. Any other recommended value tire brands/models?
  2. Are the 275s and 295's a sane pairing with the 20x9" (+35os, 6.38bs) and 20x10.5" (+45os, 7.52bs) wheels? Any tramline/poke/rub concerns?
  3. What would be a good square setup alternative as far as wheel size/width and tire size? Are 20" wheels an option?
  4. As I shop around for mount/balance costs at local shops, what is a fair price per wheel? I assume this would need to include moving the TPMS sensors over from my original wheels/tires.
This is my first wheel/tire upgrade ever. Thanks in advance for any opinions.

CJ Pony Parts wouldn't sell combinations of wheel offset, tire sizes, etc. that would have rubbing issues. A 275 tire will fit on a 9 inch wheel but you wouldn't want to go any wider. A common square setup is 20x10 +35 with 285s all around. The SVE wheels from LMR are a good value.

I’d personally buy a low mileage & off a 18 -19 PP1 set often sold here for less than tires alone cost. The 18+ PP1 staggered tire is amazing.
Spending your savings on wheels to short change your tire choice will not make you happy...

I just installed 20 x 10 +40ET square with 285/30R20 tires. No rubbing, so far.
Definitely do yourself a favor and save up for tires. Look at Tire Rack reviews (go to "Research & Advice"). Some solid performers at less than Michelin prices.

The SVE SP2's are sharp, but largest is 19". Not even sure why I'm hung up on 20's, I guess since I'm upgrading from 18's I figured go bigger. Thanks.

I'm wondering if 20x10 +35 with 285/35zr20 would rub.

Thanks, I'll check out the classifieds for wheels near me.

Those tires have a diameter 0.6 inches larger than the stock 18s, which should not be enough to rub unless you're lowered quite a bit.

But maybe someone running 285 tires on 10 inch ET35 wheels can chime in on whether they poke in the rear. My 275s on 19x9.5 ET33 seem pretty flush.

With the 20x10 +40 285/30 I've got about 5 mm clearance, or so. +35 will bring the tire out 5 mm, so I would think the 285/35 would be fine. the extra sidewall height will bring the sidewall bulge a tiny bit higher on the strut tube which will give a tiny bit of additional clearance.

To the OP. I have the same wheels as in your cart. 275/35/20 in the front and 305/35/20 in the rear, Nittos. No rubbing. I also have roush coilovers dropped. However, if I had it to do the over again, I would go down about 10 mm in front and rear. Not for functionality but for aesthetics. I get a lot of compliments on the wheels.

I also had sensors put in the new wheels as opposed to switching them out just in case I wanted to switch back to the PP1 wheels sometimes.
