Last weekend I dipped my wheels black just to see what it would look like. As it turns out, I really like it. So much so in fact that I've looked into having them powder coated. Based a little bit of interweb research it seems that it'll run me $300-400+ to have them coated. Now, this is where I run into an issue. I do eventually plan on getting after market wheels, but it's pretty far down the list right now because a.) I'd rather spend money on more performance related stuff (yes I know better, wider tires and lighter wheels do help performance) and b.) I'm actually pretty happy with the way the stockers look, especially now that they're black. So, the thought of spending the money (that could be spent on horsepowers) to have them coated gives me some heart burn. Also, even I wanted to spend $300-400 on the wheels, I could get some decent after market wheels for not much more. So, powder coating is probably out. I now find myself searching for a more permanent than dip, but less expensive than PC solution. Then it hit me, what about paint? Aren't most factory wheels painted anyway? Does anyone have any experience in repainting their stock wheels? How dI'd it come out? How does it hold up?

Honestly, I think it be best to stick with the Plasti dip instead of painting them. Paint tends to not be as durable as powder coat. So you rather just apply a good amount of coats of Plastidip and that will last a pretty good time.

Painted? If so, I'd love to hear details of how you did it and what you used.

Yup. Some shop here in Manila did it for me for 250 USD. Used Dupont paint and clear coat. Did not strip to metal. Just sanded the original finish and painted it black plus high gloss clear. The shop said they painted it the same method and materials as they would on a normal body panel.

Well after thinking about it and doing some research I decided to give it a shot. I primed and wetsanded them and then Sprayed the gloss black. After giving them a week or so to cure I hit them with a compound followed by a polish. They're not perfect, but I think they look pretty damn good. I'd be willing to bet that 99.9% of people wouldn't know they didn't come that way.
