Last weekend I dipped my wheels black just to see what it would look like. As it turns out, I really like it. So much so in fact that I've looked into having them powder coated. Based a little bit of interweb research it seems that it'll run me $300-400+ to have them coated. Now, this is where I run into an issue. I do eventually plan on getting after market wheels, but it's pretty far down the list right now because a.) I'd rather spend money on more performance related stuff (yes I know better, wider tires and lighter wheels do help performance) and b.) I'm actually pretty happy with the way the stockers look, especially now that they're black. So, the thought of spending the money (that could be spent on horsepowers) to have them coated gives me some heart burn. Also, even I wanted to spend $300-400 on the wheels, I could get some decent after market wheels for not much more. So, powder coating is probably out. I now find myself searching for a more permanent than dip, but less expensive than PC solution. Then it hit me, what about paint? Aren't most factory wheels painted anyway? Does anyone have any experience in repainting their stock wheels? How dI'd it come out? How does it hold up?
