I'm trying to update my non-nav SYNC version 170194 in my car to version 18025. The car doesn't even respond when the USB is plugged in. Could this be because it's USB 3.0?

Please help.

Thanks

The car is USB2. Don't know of any USB3 drive that isn't backwards compatible.

Could be a bad drive, formatted wrong, or wrong contents. Does the infotainment recognize a USB drive with music? Did you try both USB sockets in the car?

Make sure that the USB stick is formatted with FAT32. Also, IIRC, upgrades only work from USB 1 (the port that's down in the center console, in front of the shifter).

There were some faulty directions (from Ford, nonetheless) that said to format the USB stick with ExFAT...that was when I tried to upgrade my base radio (Microsoft Sync 5) to the 5.11 upgrade back in February. We figured out pretty quickly in this forum that the ExFAT thing was wrong

Problems with EXFAT???? Interesting, since I updated to version 3.0 with a thumbdrive formatted in EXFAT....... I did, however, have issues with a "no name" brand thumbdrive that the system apparently would not recognize. I switched to a Sandisk 16gig, USB-3, formatted in EXFAT, and had no issues...... I did use the forward USB port.

Thanks Hoosierdaddy & El aviator72
Everything checked out folder & file wise.

I did format both exfat & fat32 (I tried twice) & I actually tried both USB ports.

I do have that leaked version of 3.0 in the car currently but the Ford site still has 2.2 as my last update. Wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Not wrong. The fact that you installed from FAT32 and maybe had a problem when using ExFAT does not mean your problem was with ExFAT or that Ford gave wrong instructions. FAT32 may or may not work in all cases, but ExFAT is the best choice because Ford recommends it. We don't know the reasons they chose it, so therefore we don't know the downsides to going rogue.
