Haven't received my 2015 GT yet so I'm not sure what will fit etc although I can't imagine any of them should be an issue.

I feel like this is one of those things that you can't go wrong...BUT here I am anyway at 2:30am.

So..what have you guys used so far?

I only know of two types

1) magnet

2) that clip thingy that squeezes together to hold phone in place (there has to be a better name for it..)

#2 is the old school one. Has anyone ever had problems with the magnet? I have a galaxy s5. Anything falling off? Any horror stories. Any brands to avoid like the plague. Any that are highly recommended?
What is your purpose for wanting to mount it?

I ask because my phone (GS4) and the car's infotainment system link, and I just lay the phone in the tray in front of the shifter.

Lastly, if you are using the phone for GPS instead of having it in the car's system then getting a mount is a good idea.

Here's pics of the magnetic mount I'm using from Scosche. So far it's working well.

I'm using the Scoshe Magic Mount. It's just like this one, but without the long neck. It adheres to the dash via 3M, and has a very strong neodymium magnet that holds your device to it. The base curves, so it sticks to the curved dash with no issues. I have mine mounted in between my first and second vent on my base model 15. Absolute best option on the market to mount a phone, IMO, and for $20, you can't really beat it. I will post pics when I get to my car tmrw.

I tried that one in my wife's Pathfinder and couldn't get it to stick. We ended up with the version that goes in the air vent. That one works great also.

Maybe it's the dash material in the Pathfinder. It's perfect in the S550.

thanks blk. do you find it's a bit too in your face at that height? I think i saw some space on the left side of steering wheel a little lower than that level? did you consider that area?

edit: do you think there's a possibility it'll fall off from our "spirited" driving? the phone off the mount that is.

I wanted it right were I have it. It was perfect placement for me. Not too far to reach, not intruding my vision, and easy to glance at. As far as spirited driving, it's solid. It won't budge. I've done 0-60's and some donuts with my phone mounted on it. Might make for some good POV footage too.

get a dashcam for that! thanks for the input. im either gonna get that one or one of these

I looked at that one too, and I decided against it because the part that adheres to the back of the phone is too bulky and once it's on there you can't reuse it. With this one, the metal "plates" are a third of the thickness and go between the case and the phone and you don't have to pull off the sticky and can reuse the "plates"

Do you have a caliper to measure the thickness of the plate that mounts to the phone? What is this plates length and width? (I could find no dimensions at all on Scosche's site) Was it you that said this brand even works thru the hard case of a Galaxy S5. I have the Costco Galaxy S5 with it's free Otter Box 'Commuter' case. It's rubber liner is .060" thick, so if metal w/ 3m sticky is that or less, I could cut out a section of the rubber. Bummer that I think the NFC device is in the center of phone, so might have to mount plate off center.

Are you able to use the touch screen and the magnet still holds tight with finger pressure on top or bottom parts of phone? Tks

Yep, I can touch the screen and it stays in place. I don't have a caliper or anything official, but these are photos I just took.

Thanks for the info. Thickness looks plenty thin. :) If it is easy to measure the L & W of the two metal pieces, that would be helpful. If not, I can extrapolate from the impression if I know if your phone is the bigger iPhone 6 vs. iP 4 or 5.

Is the base magnet the same size as the larger plate that you use? Any idea if the holding power (for touching top & bottom of phone) is lessened much if the smaller plate is used under a case?

Thanks!
