I'm in the market for some new wheels but I know nothing about them. Obviously aesthetics play a large role in my decision but now I've noticed some wheels are made differently and can be made from various materials. So far the only thing I can tell is lighter wheels are better but what else should I take into consideration?

Thanks in advance

Lighter wheels are not necessarily better - if they're not made to be strong, just light... well.
Paul@PKAUTODESIGN can chime in.

Different ways of creating the wheel lead to differences in strength. If you plan on tracking the car with aftermarket wheels, your first factor should be strength over weight. Most of the time quality aftermarket wheels will be lighter regardless.

About half-way through this video they start torture testing wheels. I think it does a good job showing how a good wheel will take a hit and snap back without breaking.

A good wheel would have very good drum durability, finish durability, and minimal weight (particularly on the drum where it spins the fastest). I'd also add that ease of cleaning is also a plus.
