Does anyone know what that tall pedestal looking thing is? Located on driver's side at front of engine compartment.

I don't see that in the 5.0 engine bay, so I'd assume maybe something to do with the intercooler.

Yes and no. A Ford rep told me about it, but I don't recall exactly what he said...what I remember it's part of the air intake that Ford's engineers determined needed to be there for either efficiency or sound(sorry I just don't remember)

It's for sound resonance in the intake tract. Noise emissions. Our 5.0 has one to (a little different though). It has been eliminated.

It's between the airbox and the core support/headlight.

Looks like a Helmholz resonator. Damps acoustic energy at a particular frequency. Probably intended to cancel the fundamental organ pipe mode in the intake tract.

I was going to say, it's a resonator. I removed the one on My 87 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, as well as My 92 Lincoln Mark VII LSC. On both of those cars it helped silence Intake Sound. They both sounded much better without it. I'm not sure if the same will be said for the Eco-Boost, nut I'd try removing it from My Car.
