What is the point of turning off Misfire Detection in a tune?

Isn't the nature of a misfire long term possible damage to your engine? I've seen in threads all over the web of people turning it off in their custom tunes. My question is, why?

Usually if they run a 2-step or WOT box they'll have misfire detection disabled.

People are lazy and don't wanna clear the code after a run, they don't like seeing a CEL, but have no problem with everything else on the dash lit up like a christmas tree.
