Me crazy, and I can't help myself
Hello all, now that my car is scheduled for production the first week of Sept i am trying to plan out what will happen during pickup of the vehicle.

When i first spoke with the dealer about the car i told them that i didn't want anything done to the car like they would normally do during the PDI. Specifically i didn't want some shop kid taking the car out to the gas station, guys pulling all the plastic with an exacto knife like a video that was posted up here a while ago. My question for the guys here is does anyone have a list of what is actually done during the PDI so that i could decide which steps i'd like them to do and what i'd like them to leave alone and let me do myself.

Much appreciated

Not what should in most cases, unfortunately.

There is a PDI check off sheet that appears to be an unnecessary item during the initial dealer intake of your car.

do you have a copy of the check off sheet by chance? Is it unique to this car or just a generic one for all vehicles?

The PDI list includes things that they do have to do like checking to ensure that the car is mechanically sound after transport and all fluids are topped off, etc. There are some 350 specific items like installing the splitter, removing the blocks from the springs on R models, etc, etc. What you probably want to do is request that they don't detail the car inside or out if you want to do that yourself.

Correct, PDI has a long checklist but in reality its pretty basic. Taking car out of transport mode, setting the date and time, checking fluids, tire pressure, checking for leaks, removing the plastic film on all the screens, floors, scuff plates, installing the floor mats, checking for operation of all the electronics (turn signals wipers, etc) checking for software updates, removing seat covers and shipping papers (build sheet). They may tell you that they NEED to take the stuff of the seats and wash the car to inspect for transport damage...while this is technically true, it seems like on the high end stuff like this they tend to work with you.

I asked the dealer to install the front spoiler and do what they had to do, including a good detail, without disturbing the various markings and coverings and stuff.

Get a copy of the PDI checklist and be there while they PDI it, some dealers will do this for you.

The dealer that is taking the drop ship asked me if i wanted to drive the car from the transport to the work bay and what specifically wanted done. I told him id be there when it shows and we can go thru everything. I don't want anything done other than to check the car for damages, make sure everything operates as it should, take the spacers out and ill be on my way.

I told my dealership not to touch it until I get there. They just looked everything over, checked the tire pressure, checked the fluids, looked it over for damages, made sure the electronics worked and that was about it. I told them not to take off any stickers/plastic/wrappings or anything. I even took it out to fill up the first tank of gas. It had 2.6 miles on it and I was the first person to take it onto the road. Awesome experience at the dealership.

Then I stopped by another local dealership that just got one of their stock ordered GT350s in and the tech was acting like a little kid on Christmas. He told me "Can you believe they want me to take this thing to the redline as part of the PDI?!".

Thank god I didn't order from that dealership...

Same here. 2.5 miles. Damn near out of gas but had fun removing the plastic myself. A bit tough to see out the windows on the 18 mile drive home because of all the stickers.

Agreed! Mine was almost 30 miles and half of it in traffic. I got a lot of pretty funny looks when everyone saw all the damn plastic all over and inside my car. The plastic on the seats and steering wheel were hell in the heat but I still had a fun drive home

I did my own PDI in my driveway including taking it out of transport mode.

My PDI also included spending every hour that evening checking to make sure it was still in the garage... wife said I should just sleep in there. I thought it was a test, so I didn't. ;)

Do any of you have pictures of your cars still covered in the protective plastic? I'd like to see what all it covers.

I'm going to have an ~11 hour drive home from the dealer I ordered at, so I'm thinking about asking them to leave it on...

From what I remember: Plastic covered both front seats, steering wheel, & a plastic cover over the touch screen. Lots of stickers all over the windows.
Floor mats in a plastic bag in the trunk with Ford Performance car manual.
