New WRX has received far more praise than the new STI
The new WRX is wonderful, even with the CVT. Only downside is, I think they forgot to put ANY sound deadening/blocking in the cabin. I would be driving one of those if I didn't feel like I was going to go deaf. Cabin feel is on the cheap side, too, but to be expected. If I lived up north, I'd have a WRX.

The STI is basically a carry over from the previous generation where it matters. I'd rather have the hatchback STI so that was never an option. Plus, I get that the huge spoiler may be functional, but f'that... things ugly and I'm not 16.

Just can't get enuff!
I went to a small C&C type gathering early Saturday in Ft. Lauderdale's art district. Two guys I know rolled in w/ their respective fun to drive cars... the white GT350 is a 2017 with the Convenience pkg and Blue stripes but he also owns a modded C6. The Shark Gray Z06 is a good friend of mine... keeps it meticulously clean. He ordered one last year after he saw my Z06... same color combo. He doesn't track at all so I doubt he'll ever experience any limp mode issues. Anyway I think by now everyone knows these are really different kinds of performance machines.

Same driver, gt350 vs z06 will be like comparing c63 base to e63 amg.

Z06 is going to 1 second or more faster to 0-60 (equal drivers) and at least just much and to 1/4 mile and trap 6-7 mph more. 6-7 mph trap is like 5-6 bus lengths in a drag strip.

Yes we wont be lapping VIR, but "relatively speaking", any gt350 owner would see a big difference in handling and sheer speed after driving both cars.

stat sheet racing is only worth so much IMHO. 99% of us will never be able to approach the limits of the cars we drive either because of laws or because of limits on our own driving abilities. Buying a car solely because a professional driver took it around a track faster than model X is silly. For me overall driver experience, engagement, and connection are much more important and also much harder to determine than by just reading the stat sheet. That being said it is well documented in many reviews that the fastest/most powerful engine is not always best. Examples:

Corvette stingray released to much fanfare and very well reviewed, the z06 had a ton more power, way faster, should be a no brainer? Not so, many reviews were disappointed by how the car performed (even before the over heating issues)

New WRX has received far more praise than the new STI

Cayman GT4 much better reviewed than more expensive, faster big brother 911's

So for me i don't really care what car comes out next that is "faster" or has more hp than the GT350, i only really care what comes out that gives me a more engaging, connected, exciting and special driving experience.

On a final note, MCarsfan, you are definitely 100% correct on everything you say about corvette, based on all your great insight and the fact that you love to pay under MSRP i think its a no brainer that you go buy one. I heard they even have a better forum than this one, why don't you go join and share some of your wisdom with them.

I plan to track a Yugo against a Corvette, because...well... I got a couple of screws loose. :D

Funny that the new WRX was mentioned. There was one at the track event this weekend and I thought he would be a slow car. Not only did he keep up when I was on point, but I gave him to point by a couple times when I was making too many mistakes. I was impressed. Quick car.

And yet how many performance car awards, engine awards, or acclaim did the car receive? I guess you can't read so I will simplify, speed is not the only deciding factor in what makes a car great.

The Z06 looks soooo good in that color. Except for the old man wheels

tcman54. Based on the exclusiveness of the Yugo, you may have a better ride than all of us!
