Don't notify your insurance company. You could end up paying a grand or so over the next 3 years for that $300 mirror. Just my .02 based on personal experience.

To bring some closure to this, I did go through insurance, and of course they managed to find a salvage part. It a bit of an enjoyable FU to insurance, the electric adjustment didn't work after they installed it the first time, so I had to bring it back the next day, and the body shop said they would charge my insurance another $50 for another hour of labor when they only saved $40 on the salvage mirror (they found a severed wire was the culprit). Geico did raise my rates $25/6mo, citing a reclassification of my car from standard performance to high performance and reclassification of my neighborhood to a higher risk area. American Family gave me a quote $25 cheaper than the original Geico price, so I'm switching to AmFam.
