USB files and folders flattened

Hi, so just got my new Base model GT and was glad to see they had USB for the stereo. On my other car it recognizes the different folders so I can toggle through the folders and drill down to any song I want to hear fairly easy. On the Mustang it appears to flatten all the songs into one list, so basically I have 1000 songs that are all in the same folder as far as the stereo thinks. Makes it pretty tough to find songs. Are there any tricks to renaming the folders or something so it recognizes the individual folders and keeps the songs grouped in the folders? Hoping that makes a sense. Guessing I'm going to be out of luck, but crossing my fingers that I'm just not doing something right. Thanks hopefully.

I use 2 64gb thumb drives at the same time in my pony. I have to switch sources between the 2 but it sees all my folders just fine. Try formatting your sticks to fat32 instead of ntfs and see if this helps ......... ;-0

It organizes based on ID3 tags. Sounds like your collection isn't tagged, or at least not properly. There are a bunch of programs for managing tags that you can use. I use Mp3tag, but mine are ripped with good tags.

With the tags set up you can keep folders, or dump them all into the root directory. It will organize by artist and album either way.

My DD is a '14 Fusion with the large screen and MFT. There's a limit on the size of album art, so I generally have to change that to get it to display and Mp3tag makes it easy. Mustang is a base GT, so no art, but I use the same files on 2 separate 64GB flash drives. It works well in both cars.

Hmm, sounds like I have some learning to do. I did figure out how to sort by artist, so at least I can do that. Just was hoping it would recognize the folders and let me select them and drill down into them to find the songs I want. Versus hitting the over arrow 700 times to get to a song in the last folder. Really hoping hey come out with some cost effective aftermarket stereos soon. My $130 pioneer in my jeep uses the up/down arrows to flip through folders and then the left/right arrows to flip through the songs in each folder. Does the Mustang stereo allow any of you to do this with a USB drive? If so I will definately read up on what was posted above. Thank you.

You can switch sources by saying "FM", "USB", etc.

On USB if you say "Play all" and hit the button again and say "Shuffle on" it will play all of your songs in random order.

You can say "Play album whatever" and it plays that album, or

"Play artist whatever" and it plays just that artist either in alphabetical order by song title, or random with "Shuffle on".

For a particular song say "Play song whatever"

No, that helps for sure. The more info the better. I have a Base model. Trying to avoid us int sync and voice stuff. Seems I've hear plenty of comments that it doesn't work all that well, but I suppose I should at least see for myself.
As far as my folders go, they aren't necessarily by artist, mostly by mood if you can all it that. Like one folder has music that is sort of all punk, another is sorta rap, another folder new wave, etc. it's kinda a crap way to do it, but am so used to knowing all the folders and what's in them from listening the last few years in my jeep. I see that the Mustang stereo has broken my rap into three different types, even though I just called it folder 12. The new stereo calls some of the songs rap, others R&B, others Gangsta. I just want it to call it folder 12 and let me pick through the songs in the folders they are contained in. Sorry, but I do appreciate all the info I can get.

Edit. I was able to navigate to a command that was "USB Search" (or something similar to that). Wih that I could scroll up and down through all the songs. Holding down the down arrow makes it scroll pretty fast. Barely had any time to look into it much, but hopefully it's the folders/songs in order. Feel kinda dumb not looking more before posting. Seems like I've only had about 12 minutes with the car when I am not driving.

My experience has been that the voice commands work really well. My '14 Fusion they work, but with some hitches, on the Mustang they have worked great for me.

I checked the manual and there's a "play genre whatever" command you might try. The genre needs to be in the tag for each song. I've never tried that 1, but no reason it wouldn't work. You can browse by genre too. Lots of good info in the manual starting around page 323. They explain it way better than I can.

Thought I'd bump this back up as I learned how to navigate the USB folders. I was just being dumb. It's right there in the push button arrow controls right below the LCD. Pushing the back arrow puts you back to the beginning of a song, pushing it again puts you into the folder, pushing it again puts you in the folder list. From there your can go to any folder and play any song using the arrows. Simple, only took me a few months to figure out. Silly me, I hadn't even been using those buttons until now. Hope this helps someone searching later on.

Yep, I have no problem browsing folders on my base stereo, just have to know how to do it. I wish I could use the steering wheel controls for this, much harder to use the radio buttons to browse.

Yep that was my problem, I was so into using the steering wheel controls I completely ignored the buttons on the dash. Just glad I figured it out.
