Has anyone bought a pair of universal Borla S-type mufflers and had them welded in in place of the factory ones? How different would it sound compared to the Borla S-type axle back kit? I've always loved the way Borlas sound but $700+ for a simple rear section exhaust is just obscene.

Keep checking the forums. You can score a set of the FRPP/Borlas for about 500 bucks in the classifieds. People are constantly upgrading, looking for a new sound, or trading their mods in...

Also, consider that you are buying a tuned system from a manufacturer specifically for your car. The systems are expensive. I was in the same boat as you. Didn't want to spend the money and thought the prices were outrageous.

I also remember a post about a guy who did the weld-in route with factory piping. He posted pics, videos, etc. It sounded great. However, I believe he ended up taking it out due to drone. YMMV.

Where are you in GA? Best bet is to get out to some meets and listen for what you like.
