Undersealing ?

Am puzzled in the UK we are getting our cars Undersealed, and Ford are even doing the undersealing of cars before they get to the UK (mind you its crap)
But in the US and Canada I can't find any threads on this?
Now I would have thought your weather is way worse than ours in the UK.
I Mean these hail stones video's are scary stuff
My old S197 was never undersealed and was spotless after 9 years.
So are you fussed about undersealing? or just don't think it matters?

Think the ones in Canada are undersealed, also think in the states you can pay extra for winter protection but I don't know whether this means undersealing or not.

UNdercoating, in the US anyway, atleast used to be one of the great scams perpetrated on the car buying public. Now it's ext warranties and paint sealants. You shouldn't have any rust or corrosion problems with a new car.

Not totally true, rust on the underside will happen if a stone hits the underside and takes it down to metal, it's more stonechip protection that is needed.

I think they used to underseal for the Canadian spec, but they don't anymore :frusty:

Not totally true, rust on the underside will happen if a stone hits the underside and takes it down to metal, it's more stonechip protection that is needed.

Its more dependent on the mix of steel and the type galvanizing being used along with the use of immersion electrophoretic coatings primers. Undercoatings can be porous and hold moisture .

Not sure if undersealing works or not but I declined it on my previous new car, a 2001 grand prix gtp, after driving it in 12 midwest years the bottom had rusted out so bad the car had to be totaled after a minor traffic accident because it was unfixable due to all the rust. :shrug:

Now that I got my brand new mustang and live in Florida those worries no longer concern me.

The wax coatings is the route I took. Just clean the undercarriage and spray that wax on everything except the rotors. You can get the cans for around 10 euro each here in Germany and I have heard good things about them. I did my car but I have no real world experience with how well it prevents rust because I just did it. I will report back after the next winter. The Ford dealership saw my what I did when I had it in and the mechanic said I did a really good job and that was the right thing to do.
