I take my torque wrench with me and watch them. I always ask they let me do final torque. When I get home i check them again and put the wrench back in the box. Too many horror stories. Discount tire damn near killed my wife and had to replace several studs on both front wheels after they"forgot" to torque them down. I told her to let me do it but women know everything right.
Even now, there's not much in the way of maintenance or repair that I'll farm out to the dealership or other shop. My wife was hoping I could start letting go of some of these things . . . until the Subaru dealership screwed up an oil filter replacement two times out of three and managed to do something very similar to what happened in this thread (actually, they doubled up the centering rings under the RR aftermarket wheel).

Now she knows better.

On CA - yes it is a democracy, at least in a literal sense. But its "representative" government has become so obsessed with regulating and running peoples' lives for them - mostly from a single perspective - that it can be argued that it isn't as good of a democracy as it should be.

It's just simplier to do the work your self. It'll cost about 75% less than having a shop do I. As they will not only screw you for $120 dollars an hour. They will buy discount parts. Then increase the parts price! Between youtube and forum information. Doing any job is now as simple as following directions.

The more disturbing part of the direction this thread has taken is that someone in the UK thinks we possibly just shoot each other for trivial things..lol
The guy in the UK is probably sitting at his computer with a bowl of popcorn, thinking how easy it was to get that snowball rolling... :)

... and plotting his next "free entertainment" caper ...

Yep... I have only had my car to the dealership once after taking delivery. That was enough for me. Came back with damage to the interior textured plastics, and muddy towel swirls all over it. And the repairs they effected didn't solve anything. Seat coolers are even worse, one of the radio problems was actually the USB hub (replaced it myself for the Sync3 v2.2 update and problems have disappeared). Most everything else is still the same as when I dropped it off (except for the oil change).

I've been debating whether or not to risk doing all the oil changes myself and not having the undeniable dealership records for warranty purposes, but the more I think about it the more I'm leaning to doing it myself.

Ford can't deny your engine warranty just because you change your own oil.

The Ford site has a place for owners to log their own maintenance and it shows up with whatever the dealer does. For oil changes, include the filter and oil you used as well as the oil life at time of change. The form has a place for what you paid for the oil, filter, whatever.

I have seen this and wondered my dealer service never showed up. It didn't dawn on me until you said it that I can use this to keep track of my servicing... That might make up for my abysmal record keeping habits...

Or...the guy in the UK is still upset after losing the revolution :) Of course I am kidding. Maybe that is how the US is perceived. I mean I hear it constantly from those I work with that live around the world. Frustrating to say the least but I blame the media and their biasness.

Anyway - since I replied to the lad in the UK sorry if it derailed the thread. I thought I was just saying why we can't go out front and shoot. My apologies.
