Those ring terminals will make for a nice permanent connection inside the engine bay. But you will want to add that quick disconnect trailer hitch shown in post #9.

This is the cheap $9 charger I use. Works fine. [Gadzooks these online images post huge.]
I have one of those on my generator that I got from China Freight for dirt cheap!!

The dumbest part of this charger is when they combined spring clamps with a coiled cord. Guess what happens? The coiled cord pulls hard on the spring clamps, of course. Precarious. Supposed to be warm weather this weekend, so I will be able to modify my charging setup to something more useful, convenient, and permanent.

Yes and no. If the 12V outlet is switched, this won't work because the connection is open when ignition is off.
It only works if the outlet is constantly on.
Not sure what you mean by this post? Not being facetious, just don't understand.
It does work very well. This is my second year doing it. I plug into the 12 volt in the car, plug in the battery tender into wall outlet, press the correct button on said battery tender, and done. Car fires up all the time on first start. Super easy.

He was saying there are two kinds of 12V power outlets in cars - switched and always-on.
The switched outlet is disconnected when the car is turned off, and so the trickle charger would also be disconnected from the 12V system in the car.

Therefore, he recommends to use only the always-on outlet to make sure the battery is being charged.

The owner's manual is not clear whether the outlets are switched or not.

Personally, I don't feel comfortable using the power outlet for charging, mainly due to the current levels and unknown wiring scheme. But, for a low-current trickle charger, the risk may be low.

My Roush Stage 3 is a 2013, so it could be that the 12v outlet on the dash is always on because my car fires up all the time every couple of weeks or months. I've been doing this way for 2 years now. I use the outlet and never used the battery terminals on this car. I did the battery terminals on a previous car though.
Thanks for the explanation.

I just checked both 12V outlets on my 16 and neither are constant on when ignition is off. So the charging through 12V outlet type charger won't work on the S550's.

I think fewer new cars come with always-on outlets. They probably don't want the customers to complain that the battery drains down, or that some device left plugged in caused other problems. E.g. my GF complains that she can't charge her phone in her Acura while it is parked.

I think its more of a safety hazard. There have been numerous vehicles catching on fire while parked with adapters plugged in.

Exactly. I'm disappointed I can't charge my hoverboard while my car is parked in the hot sun.
