I noticed a thread where someone mentioned changing out the fluid when new, just like changing out engine oil on a new engine during break in. Is that really a thing? I‘ve never heard of that before, and I believe normally not done till 100K. Right now I‘m sitting at 6700 miles.

Also saw a couple guys switching to RedlineD4 which is higher viscosity than the stock fluid, they claim smoother shifting. Are there any downsides to that, other than worrying about warranty? My car goes into winter sleep so no cold weather driving to worry about.

Appreciate any feedback!

Redline recommends their D6 ATF. If you choose to use that brand, I would not go against their recommendation.
Putting thicker fluid in anything will give the impression of being smoother. But, the problem is that it is actually causing excess drag and slowing everything down.

I changed mine after the first track season to (3000miles). Shifting smoothness improvement was noticeable. From new 2-3 shift wasn’t always smooth and the trans had a high frequency whine in 2nd. All of those things went away with the oil change. The oil performed as expected this track season. Will change it to fresh Amsoil in the spring.
