Quick update: I ran a bottle of Royal Purple’s Max-Clean through the car and it has been great since then. It may have been as simple as something being gummed up or dirty from cheap fuel or bad maintenance from the previous owner. That and it sat for several months before I bought it. So... fingers crossed! It's been running great.
Don't know if you're still having this issue, but a lot of people have had it. Purple Max clean doesn't do much realistically, but I'm happy its working for you!

Well, it happened again. Same exact thing, same exact place. We had a "Houston cold front" pass through so it was like 58F outside first thing in the morning leaving for church. Pulled out on to the frontage road and got on it, maybe 70% throttle to get up and quickly merge onto the highway. At what felt like should've been a shift point, maybe the 2-3 shift, completely lost power, throttle did nothing for 3-4 seconds as I rolled down the street and then slowly picked speed up from a high gear, probably 5th. What was a little different this time is that when I finally exited and came to a stop light it down shifted and worked it's way back through the gears like normal. Whereas this had happened twice before it didn't shift at all up or down until I stopped the car and turned it off and then back on.

It serves to mention that all 3 times this has happened it has been first thing in the morning on cool or cold-ish mornings.

I'm pretty upset and Ford has been no help because they can't duplicate the problem (which makes sense because it's only happened to me 3 times in over 4 months) and the car is not throwing any codes. I just plugged up and checked it myself, no DTCs.

What can I do? Should I try replacing the throttle body and/or associated sensors etc?

With it not throwing codes and happening so rarely, I know I'm not going to get anywhere with warranty but I have to figure out a way to fix this myself.

I know this has been a common issue but the TSB 16-0139 melwff posted doesn't apply to the 5.0 engine and based on reading around it seems this actually causes the engine to stall and illuminate a wrench and throw a particular code. None of this seems to apply to me but it does appear the fix is to replace the throttle body, but there's nothing specific I can find saying what part of the throttle body is actually causing the issue.

Any help would be much appreciated. :frusty:

My situation was a bit different.. My car used to completely shut off and I had to turn it back on while driving. I'd suddenly loose power, but I realized it was only when the clutch was pushed in. It's happened to me 4-5 times but it hasn't happened for a while. In my case (speculation) I thought it has something to do with the idle dipping lower then it should and the car just shutting off. What I did was an idle relarn and I have not had this issue again. I did this after my tune and now the idle does not move and it is completely stable.

Car has yet to turn off.. Knock on wood!

Get a go pro cam or dash cam if you have to so you have proof and take it to ford before your warranty expires it sounds like a bad tb.
