Hi,
I just did my first track day of the season, and the car performed gorgeously. I managed to learn my way going in this direction on Palmer (it goes both directions now), and even drop my lap times under 2 minutes.
Now, I was behind this ugly Ford hatchback of some sort (before he gave me the pass sign), and he lost it a bit and went on the grass, throwing rocks and grass at me.
As I washed the car today, I noticed some ugly scratches on the bonnet... plus some small points of damage on the bottom stripes on the bumper.
Anyone using track tape? Is it any good in protecting from small rocks and rubber flying ?
If so, which kind?
I am going to wrap my all front end in blue painters tape otherwise next track day, I swear.

Thanks

I use road warrior liquid paint protection and then just wash it off after my track day. I was using track tape nothing wrong with it at all but takes a bit to do the complete front end.

Thanks; how hard does that get, will it protect from small rocks flying around and rubber?

Absolutely now the big rocks it will soften the blow. Don't be alarmed by the finish once on looks like eggshell paint but works extremely well.

2017 GT350 now gone to a great home.
Trakktape is a great product. I use it in front and behind the rear wheel well only, as the whole front of my car is PPF. Wrapping the entire front in Trakktape would work, but it’s a lot of work to install each time you head to the track.

Any of the automotive PPF products are going to give the best protection. The 'traktape' type brands are just using a B-grade ppf that didn't meet quality standards for clarity. They will perform the same as the film used in a 'regular' ppf install. As others have said, the install can be involved if you want it to look good. If you take the time and do a good install there is no need to remove after an event unless it has holes/rips. Surface marks can be removed most of the time. Just leave it on and replace as needed. If it's installed correctly it's difficult to see.

Matt with Obsessed Garage took his 350 with Road Warrior on and it held up pretty good at the Tail of the dragon. It even rained which softens it too for obvious reasons but still held together after it dried. He recommended it last I recall. You're going to have to wash the car anyways after the track event so you may as well go with Road Warrior which has to be washed to get off versus peeled off.

Exactly what i do roll it on and let dry, go to the track and come home wash off the next or so. It's not hurting anything by being on there and washes right off. It reminds me of elmers glue.

Two bottles lasts me 4 track days for $40 so no complaints from me and will continue to use.

Thanks, I have PPF on the whole front bumper and headlights/signal lights, but not on the bonnet and stripes... I would cover only the bonnet completely and maybe some side fenders front and rear. This obviously only works if it's dry track day.. for wet, I would need the trakktape, real tape, right?

Yes you would tape if you expect it to be wet track day

TrakkTape is nothing at all like PPF. Completely different product, not intended to look good at all, or to remain on the car longer than a weekend. I’ve used it for several track days and was very happy with the protection it provided, especially in the advanced run groups where several others were running sticky, slick tires. The only downside is that it takes me at least 4 hours to apply two layers of TrakkTape, in order to get all of the curves, nooks, & crannies on the GT350’s hood, front fenders, rear impact areas, rocker panels, and leading edge of the roof properly covered.

Sounds like Road Warrior paint protection is a no brainer for the long ride back from the dealership after purchase, before you can get PPF. Dries in about an hour or 15 minutes in the desert heat.
