I do believe that tires come over inflated from the factory. Mine had 42 psi. I believe they do that because of the possible time it may take to get the car from factory to dealership and taking into consideration the time the vehicle will possibly sit on the lot.

Or more likely in your case, the temp change from MI to FL in winter makes up for the high pressures. I doubt they set them that high to begin with.

Also for some people, it may be the change in elevation from Flatrock to wherever they are.

I generally like mine around 34-36 for most applications, except trailer tires, then its much higher.

My tires (GT PP) had 42 psi in them. Built on 11/26 and checked pressure on 12/18. I'm at about 3300 ft elevation and it was about 40° outside. Lowered them down to about 35 psi and what a world of difference in traction even in the cool weather for summer tires. 42 psi from the factory was way too high.

And flat rock is 600ft elevation. 2700ft makes a difference in tire pressure, not 7psi difference, but a noticeable difference none the less.

Always good to check tire pressures when you get a car, the dealer should have done that in PDI I would suspect.

I think some dealers top them off with nitrogen, put green caps on and feel they are doing you a service by going over 40 psi...

Mid to high 30s is often an ideal operating range for handling. Adjust your pressures accordingly to compensate for temperature (ambient and as your tires heat up when driving aggressively/on track) and elevation changes.

I never liked those $15 digital gauges.

I noticed yesterday that my wife's 2013 Sentra will honk once the correct pressure is achieved, which is 33psi for her according to the door sticker IIRC. I found this feature surprisingly convenient. I'm wondering if our cars have the same feature, but did not find anything in the manual.

Oh well, if not, at least we have the PSI indicator in the dash. My GTPP was delivered to me with normal tire pressures. I'm surprised that some of you had them overfilled from the factory. Nevertheless, I keep an analog gauge similar to this in the car.

I keep a similar gauge; check the pressure twice a week since there are no TPMS in my winter tires.

Most often tire pressures are set high for shipping, as it reduces movement when strapped down.

Mine was at 42psi from the dealer. A lot of the time their PDI does not catch this issue.

Worst case I had was when I bought my '04 GTO new back in the day. Ship freight they actually strap the cars down and then apply more tire pressure to lock em in place. The car was at 60psi at all corners. I drove it home thinking that the Aussies had no clue how to make a car handle... worked a wee bit better with almost 30psi less at each wheel.
