The heat shield is more like a flame retardant blanket. If an engine fire were to occur, it would try to help put it out. It also offers paint protection for your hood. Paint has been known to bubble without this heat shield to protect it. Especially in the summer time with a warmed up engine.

also, painting the coil covers and engine cover are easy DIY things. several threads around on the topic. supplies to do it can be found at your local auto store.

I was thinking about simple vinyl stripes, 6 places, but wonder about the temperature requirements for them. I guess masking and taping would also work, but who makes high temp ruby red paint if that is what I need?
I would also like to body color match my brake calipers...definitely high temp.

you wont find an exact match in can, buy VHT HiTemp primer and paints are excellent. You can get it close enough and no one is going to notice. i mean spend the 150 if you want, but i enjoyed doing mine. the off the self yellow looks good and with the hood up most eyes just see the bling, not the subtle diffs in paint.

I think I found some matching vinyl for about $22, but not sure if it take engine bay heat. Not interested in spending 150 if I don't have to. Anybody know temp limits of vinyl tape?
