Timing Gear Failure

How many known members have had this failure? Just seems so irresponsible for Ford to overlook such an important part. But, it is what it is. Timing chain replacement is not something I want to try and do myself. I am reading that it is mainly S/Cd guys then I read it was hitting rev limiter then I read it is caused by detonation. Whatever the reason this situation does not seem fun.

I see a lot of talk about "upgrading," but not a whole lot of first hand experience from anyone that's lost one.
