Are you sure it is under the clearcoat?
I think it could be iron particles that start to rust, very common with cars (called rail dust)
They are impossible to get off, with just washing the car.
You could try to have a go with Carpro Iron-X... It's a de-ironiser and is an amazing product.
It's pretty simple to apply, but has an horrible smell :-)

Just google it. :-)

I'm aware of rail dust and Iron-x, gave me a major headache when I used a sample bottle on my wheels before the winter. Anyway, some spots are on top of the paint and are indeed rail dust, ill use Iron-x and clay for that. Some other spots are clearly beneath the clear coat and not sure if polish/cut will do the trick on that, I sure won't be doing it myself.

Had my replacement puddle lights installed today, I didn't get the chance to take a picture of the swap and the lights as the repair was blazing fast. Just plug & play, no need to remove the mirror or cap at all.
The lights and lens are all inside the module with 2 connector pins. I did offer to open one and have a look inside but it appears that Ford wants them back so they can claim their warranty with the supplier/manufacturer and also have them tested so they can improve their product.

Just noticed I have been fooling myself for quite some time... my mileage reading was set at the dealer to KM/L instead of L/100KM and I never noticed I could change it. So every time someone asked how the consumption was I said I didn't know exactly because the reading wasn't correct according to the many times I'm filling up at the pump... now I know why ;-)

One thing I knew for sure is that at 40Km my warning light goes on and I can add +- 52L of fuel, good for a reading of 480Km on the initial startup I think (might update later when I'm filled up). But in reality if I'm lucky I can do 380 to 400Km before I'm back at the warning light... so according to my average calculation I came around 13 to 13.5 L/100km so the readings seems to be correct after all.

Anyway, for a four banger this is still a lot IMHO. How are you guys doing with the automatic transmission, any tips/mods to get better numbers?

tips for saving fuel? Light foot on pedal :)
With manual, when I am not in a rush, I follow the green arrow that suggest you to switch gear (around 2k rpm) but after all I'm driving normally like my previous car (btw that was a diesel one)
I'm getting an average of 10.5 km\l most of the time, and with the weather getting warmer, it's raising to 11.5 km\l. I'm ok with it, even if I was expecting something better.

13 to 13.5L/100km with 7 400km is quite a lot for an ecoboost IMO :eyebulge:

I run with this consumption with my GT/AT and I've now 13 500km on the clock !
That's about what I thought the GT would be doing, so another thing to add to me regrets for not buying a GT right away. So far the only mod under the hood is a cath-can, next will be sparkplug's and a K&N airfilter, not that I'm expecting better mileage from that alone though. Anyway it too much...

Normally with an AT you can add 1 to 2 L/100KM

Anyway, been thinkering on a trade in for a GT though lately.

For me, I only have 3000km on the clock. Manual Ecoboost, I get an average of 13l/km
A lot more than I tought it would be.
But hey, I don't really care with this car.m, even if it's my daily drive, work car...

1L per 7.5km is quite a shocking number indeed. At least partly this is caused by the 3.55 end gearing. This makes the car more punchy off the line but also use more gas at cruising speeds. The manual version has 3.31 end gearing.

If this is a real life average than the massive difference in emissions (179 versus 225 grams of CO2) is probably quite acurate as well.

So if you bought the EcoBoost just for fuel economy then I'd advise you to immediately trade it up for a GT. Won't make much difference at the pump.

Btw my Ecoboost manual has run 1L per 10.4km over the first 10.000 kilometers. About half of those are with the SCT tune which does not save any fuel, contrary to their corporate slogan. If anything I think it actually uses a bit more fuel since the tune.

Good point, just took some pic's of the Trip 1 reading as I haven't reset this one in quite some time. The downside for me of trading in is the long waiting time again, and also I modified my car from day one with hand controls as I can't use my legs to drive, and can only sell it to someone who drives in a similar way. Anyway ill consider it for some more time though.

When I drive like I want to I get around 12.3 l/100km... If I drive more ... casually it seems to drop to about 10.4 I'd say... mind you, most of my driving is from a cold start and less than 5 km/trip... when I drove it home (long road trip) I swear it dipped below 8 (!!!) but I've never seen that number since... I'm taking it to Sweden in a couple of weeks so I'll see what I get there.

(I also filled it up with "premium" 95 gas down in Oslo, while they only seem to serve "regular" 95 gas up here... I swear it made a difference)

Unfortunately I got the EB not to save fuel - but to save cash, as the GT was about €43.000 more expensive up here... only thing I miss is that deep rumbling sound though - also seems to confuse some bystanders that stops and looks at me :D

Just as a test since I was staying at 12.8/13.5L for the last couple months only using the Octa 98+ fuel I figured I should try something else today. Shell V-Power claims to have some cleaning effect on the engine and was bit more expensive but worth a try. After I fueled up while I was almost completely empty I did a 10km trip with did some nice pulls, to my surprise I came out on 10/11 ish L/100km. But will only be sure once it's empty again.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the car Notes. From the start I've put in Shell V-power only and my average from when I got it till now (4500K) is 11.8L/100KM as of today. But I only drive the car when the weather is nice. Thus like a hoonigan. While on the very rare occasions I've driven it during busy traffic or in the rain and was just cruising easy, I've scored an average of 6.8 on a 200K trip trying to be as economical as possible (I was really going for it trying to beat my old Focus diesel). When cruising normal on the highway (constant 120KPH) and in normal traffic with stoplights etc, I average just under 8 (7.8L/100KM) measured from my home till arriving back at home.

So my guess: fuel. I used to take the cheap ass Dats Diesel in my old Focus. 6.8L avg 4 year in a row. Best ever on a trip was 6.4. New owner is a friend of mine who tanks at Esso. 4.8 average. And even scored 4.2 when trying to go as low as he could on a long trip.

Not even getting close to 7.8L/100KM on long distances, best was 9.8L/100KM, but I'm driving the automatic...
I'm still curious to see what this test did when it's empty again though, as my consumption only recently started to increase since +-7000km, now I'm at 9000km.

I did some research on the V-power though and according to a dutch program they add 1L of additifs to 10000L of fuel, so very concentrated imo.

there certainly seem to be differences... I filled up with 95 "plus" in Oslo on my drive home, and I swear it felt better and used less fuel/km than what it's done since... because I don't get the plus option on 95 here... (only on diesel).

Haven't looked around for 98 station, but not sure it would be worth it... €1.60/l for 98... €1.50/l for 95... that was less of a difference than I'd figure :D
